Reckon that's changing though mate. There's not many left in our team that aren't a good size and a couple of them are really looking like footballers now.

Hope so, and the new facilities have to help.

But someone has been at ur club a very long time, since 2001 from memory and it really hasn't improved.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

Just speculating, but do you reckon Wallace and his "vision" of how the game was going to evolve had anything to do with that? I remember Thursfield saying he was told not to bulk up too much or something to that effect.

You have to factor that in but he was there before and after and I haven't seen dramatic difference.

Could be his philosophies match the ones of Wallace.

Thursty told a mate of mine he was told to train as a mobile backman to run with the likes of Nick Riewolt etc.. but come the seasons start he was being played on the stay at home monsters and he was barely 90kgs and got carved up. He then tried to play catch up in the gym but it was too late and he had a horrible season.

His tan time trial improved by nearly a minute but he had lost a fair bit of size to achieve this then Plough changed his mind late in the piece which he was prone to do.

i remember having a chat to the weights fellow down at the club one afternoon in Hardwicks 1st preseason and he had just gone full time, can't remember his name, but he said he was shocked at the way our team was training and said there was little wonder at the fact they never put on any bulk.

The were doing things upside down as far as diet and training to put weight on. It was the first time apparantly that they started eating after doing weights sessions and training. To optimize weight gain and muscle growth you need to eat within a specific time after exercise.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

You would have hoped Hornsby & Co would have been across that.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

They're bound to do what the coaches tell them to do aren't they? If Wallet said he wanted a team of speedy flankers that's what they had to try and deliver. That was the vision Wallet had isn't it? A team of (mostly) quick 185-192cm guys who could run all day.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

Thats irrelevant to Shamekha's example though.

Why do weights if they're not doing the things that go with it to actually put on weight.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

It's not irrelevant at all. If they were doing weights for reasons other than weight gain why would they follow the weight gain method? What if they were weight training to gain speed and agility?

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

Sounds like from Shamekha's example is wasnt that they didnt want to put on weight, but didnt know how to do it correctly.

He didnt elaborate on whether it was a directive, but the way he said it, it sounded like they were just doing it wrong.

I honestly find it very hard to believe that a fitness professional doens't know how to instruct players to gain weight. It's not as if you can't find that information in5 minutes flat.

The fitness industry is not that far removed from faith healers. Every one of them has their own way of doing things, things they swear buy. Get two of them together and one insists that technique A is excellent, the other says it is rubbish, they both agree that some other bloke has it completely wrong. Neil Craig things altitude training is a waste, Collingwood swear buy it. And it is very faddish, every preseason a new super-something gets wheeled out.

Speaking to fitness guys is like speaking to ex-girlfriends; they'll happily describe the faults of anyone who went before them or replaced them.

Just watching the TAC GF.Greene reminds me of Nathan Foley but with better footskills.Wouldn,t dissapoint me if we went for him if he was still available.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

Roving that ball out of the middle and delivering at full pace was impressive.

Also his goal from 50m just before 3 qrt time was impressive

I reckon his performance today may push him up the order.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

Just on the draft perception, yesterday on Triple M James Brawshaw thinks that not many trades will get done due to the poor depth in the draft. Not much point in getting a pick 32 or 20 because it is worth a 50 in a strong draft. Garry Lyon who I think with his current role with Melbourne would be closer to the footy department then JB stated that smart clubs who know there stuff will get the rewards in this draft and go hard because you can get the same player at 35 that you could get at 10. Lyon also stated that will not blessed with pure stars after pick 6, that clubs could walk away with a stack of “middle-tier footballers” (his term) that play a lot of football. I am in the Lone Wolf Camp.
