Pics 15 & 26 ND 2011 - Who should we pick?

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

If he is available then we should take Toby Greene - racks up getting the ball, got great evasion in traffic, slick hands and is tough as nails. Got a big tank and great work rate.

Judd-like eh?

Hard to see Cavanagh slipping to us - GWS would take the punt on getting him right - just the lazy 8 picks before us. Like the sound of Dagliesh's speed and efficiency, we are not over blessed in the department.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

I don't quite understand why Melbourne would commit to Viney so far out. They will always have to use their first pick as some other club just has to put in a token bid forcing the Dees hand - or am I missing something?

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

Speaking of father/son selections, Barry Mitchell's kid looks a very likely type.

Sure, but the Club with the 'token bid', as you put it, may have to proceed if the Father/Son club decides not too - the argument being it keeps it real, but preferably available to the Father/Son club - preferred it the old way really, clubs should be able to squeeze some advantage out of past player association - great traditions etc.

Surely though Melbourne have to take him as they have committed to him so the token bid has to be usurped. Seems silly that a club can, or even does commit to a father/son so far out.

I have heard Viney is so good that if Melbourne did not commit to him in the 2012 draft that GWS would have scooped him up this yesr as a 17 year old and on traded him.
After O'Meara, Viney would have been the most highly sought of the batch.

kids had to nominate for that 'draft'. Viney would have had to agree to be available.

Would have played for Melbourne this year if the rules allowed it. Gun and hard as a cats head.

Crouch or Kennedy are the next in line after O'meara, F/S or not Viney is good but not on the same level as these blokes.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

One of my mates is heavily involved with a VFL. Asked him about Kavanagh and he said:

Can play but he is a massive risk and is pretty mentally weak.

If he has an injury free career he will be a 200+ player and dominate, but has had the last 3 years interrupted by a whole range of injuries which has messed with his head.

Apparently he has got a corkie before and refused to come back onto the ground. Wouldn't surprise me considering he is probably doing all he can to ensure he doesn't get injured again.

Apparently difficult to coach. Based on our character testing we can put a fat cross through that one.

Yes I would think we will look elsewhere.

For mine I think Greene will be available at 14 and is probably the safest bet.

By all reports an excellent kid, with great hand skills in tight, tough and has a tank. Would be perfect for our midfield imo.

I would be happy enough with Greene but I'm curious to know more about the Kavanagh connection, by the sounds of it he's soft and a bit of a prima donna? I actually find these traits to be unusual for a boy who's an AIS graduate and someone who has been labelled an excellent prospect by the likes of Kevin Sheehan and Jason McCartney. I'm not knocking the information as I understand the AIS love to promote their own but I'm curious to know if your source was part of the coaching staff, a player or a casual observer?

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

My mate is a recruiter/opposition analyst for a VFL club. He has also done plenty of work with the jets and said Hoskin elliot is an absolute beauty.

He wasn't writing off completely and said he was very talented but that he would be a risk.

That’s fair on both fronts. Can understand the calls on Kav. For me it is more a case of looking at what he could be at 21 both physically and mentally. Lot of growing up between 17-21. And he could be a A grade onballer. His attack on the ball is first rate and his ability to create play by hand is very good. Has great pace away from the contest. Can win a clearance and power away tackles then break away from the pack with pace.

Hoskin is more outside but has great size for a outside player. The one thing I liked about Hoskin is that he gets the ball on the outside already moving at full tilt. Doesn’t get and then go up gears, he makes sure that he gets the ball already in top gear.

No doubt he has a lot of talent and can be eye catching when he's near the ball.

Have a look at him when he's not near the ball though.

Re: Pic 14 ND 2011 - Who should we pic?

Hoskin Ellito will be gone by 14 and so will Kavanagh. Greene would be a great get.
