Genuine trade bait

You know those garage sales you go to and some muppet has a box of old blank floppy discs up for sale for $2 because someone might by em? Or a broken radio that they think someone will buy to fix up? These threads about trading Morton and co make those garage sales look briliant.

So is Morton a box of floppy discs or a broken radio? ;)

If he was a box of floppy discs we could at least play games like Bubble Bobble, River Raid and Ikari Warriors.

Freo would be the dumbest football club going around they are prepared to trade away Griffen for Motlop.

Surely that report can't be fair dinkum. Freo would have to be crazy to do it.

Now I understand. Deledio is in our best 2 or 3 players. You don't trade them unless the offer is amazing. Trading Deledio away for a unproven 17yo would be crazy.

We won't ge fair value for Deledio if GWS target him under free agency. Our best move is to extend Deledio's contract as soon as possible.

These are just your point of view those 17 year olds havent been tested at afl level but are likely to be amongst the top draft picks much like everyone knew swallow would be going no.1 well before. Re read my intial post regarding what i would find acceptable it was not a straight swap.

I would love to see us get one of these young guys but we have to give something to get something and obviously richmond has some plan by the sounds of it lets see what it involves and if it works.

I think you are a bit to scared about GWS under the free agency they do have a bigger salary cap but they also have more players and they have israel folau on big $$ too, their salary cap is about 1 mil higher but have 10 additional players. If worst comes to worst we get a compo pick of some kind and salary cap space to poach our own player if we can. But yeah by all means sign him up early if we can, just dont pay too much.

Reply your thoughts if you want but im moving on from this topic since i have no doubt deledio wants to stay at richmond and is contracted for now.

Sometimes I feel people just do not understand the importance of Deledio to our side.

Josh Toy would have been considrered one of these 17yo of his year. Would you swap Lids for him ?

Trading Deledio would be the dumbest thing we have done since trading Ottens.
You don't get rid of your best players, it's self defeating.

Ottens wanted out though didn't he?

What is genuine trade bait?

To me genuine trade bait is a Morton or Connors who have some upside and maybe need a change of scenery. Trading one of our most elite players in Deledio is utter stupidity.

How many clubs do you see trading away their top liners (not including players like Judd who want to leave)?

We got such a great deal for ottens didnt we? If we got another top 5 selection in that draft i dont think anyone would have complained but ottens was coming of injuries and wanted out. Dont compare that deal as it makes no sense.

the difference is GWS have to get rid of these 4 guys otherwise they get nothing, many people are willing to talk about about trading foley (Tigers of Old)(who is contracted as well)after just playing his 1st season back after injuries before he recaptures his best form! If he can recapture it or not is a big ? but he is a A class midfielder at his best and he will be undervalued if we trade him now.

So yes deledio is not even worth talking about but lets just get foley out the door guys since he wasnt automatically back at his early 2009 form. He was in the Victoria rep side that year for that game... deledio didnt make the cut.

Its alright cause he doesnt want to trade deledio just foley. which is just a case of i dont want to trade this good player just the other one.

We are not going to get really top players through trading because we are not in a position to trade either our best ND picks or quality players . We are however in a position to do more Houli / Grigg type deals and I am sure that is what we are looking at this year . Any big fish that may come our way is likely to be via free agency next year .

In the meantime we are best served by concentrating on having a couple of exisiting players emerge in 2012 like Vickery , Rance and Nahas did in 2011 . That alone will make us a much better team next year if it can be repeated. If 2 or 3 of Conca , Batchelor , Dea , Griffiths , Astbury , Grimes and Post step up to the next level I think supporters will be amazed at how competitive we will become .

If we are into Clark as much as reports say we are, I'm sure we'd give our Pick 14 and something else to acquire him.

The last comment I saw from the club on Clark was that his price was too high . Are there lots of reports that we are really into Clark ? I have seen a couple of journos speculating but not much else ?

I actually find it a bit strange because he is not a genuine ruckman and plays the exact role that Ty Vickery plays but i agree he is a very good player .

He was very unlucky to miss out on AA selection as a ruckman 2 years ago.

That is his preferred position, which is why I can't understand why he's want to go to Freo given they have Sandilands and Clarke.

IMO he would be as good a fit as anyone out there at the moment for our club.
