Both guys have had second chances at other clubs so that doesn't really hold much weight IMO, Pattison was a lumbering unskilled lump of a lad whilst Meyer was a highly skilled but scrawny guy who didn't have the tank to make it in the midfield.

Agree, considering the amount of talent on their list, if they wanted a Ruck/Forward then they should've handed over something of considerable worth too like an Enrightor Bartel plus a 2nd rounder.

This I agree with, we had pole position in the PSD so Ottens couldn't have held the club to ransom. In the end 2 top 10 picks became 2 picks in the teens and the rest is history.

Totally. Ottens was still young and one of the best big men in the game yet we traded him off for a couple of speculative nobodys.
I said at the time and still maintain it that Brad was the type of player that you built teams around, not punt or at least lose. Most good clubs don't move on their best players but we did.
He copped a ridiculous amount of criticism for our poor performances at the time he was traded. Our midfield was the problem as was general talent across the park.
It was a negligent trade by those in charge who had NFI!
Now he's a chance to be a 3 time premiership player and we're STILL looking for a genuine ruckman. :-[

Funny you mention Enright. Had a look at some old posts on the proposed Ottens trade from various places and it seems Geelong supporters didn't rate Enright at the time. They were throwing up his name in the same breath as David Spriggs, Kane Tenace and Paul Chambers.
 
lets hope the mistakes of the pasts dont continue then we should concentrate on retaining Lidss. Our focus should be to recruit that elusive ruckman continue to use Lids in the same way the hawks use hodge and develop the mid field through the draft and pick 14. Finally imo if Maric is the only ruckman available we would be btter off to develop derricks and put up with Gus his performance against Melb second time around did give me a glimmer of hope
 
I would throw up one of Post/ Griffiths/ Astbury and see if someone takes any interest. There is no doubt they are all going to be good players but I think one of those plus an early draft pick may be enough to get Gunston from the crows. Living in Adelaide there is no doubt Gunston will be a star in the future. He is raw but I watched him play his last SANFL game for Central Districs about 10 weeks ago and he kicked a bag of 5 or 6 and took a huge hanger, I know its only SANFL but i saw enough to say he will be a star of the future.

I know it doesnt solve our key defender/ ruckman problem, but geeze its a pretty inpressive forward line....

Why would you put up our 3 best young talls. Post is just starting to show something and the other two have had a bad run with injury. I reckon we give them a decent chance to shine before we try to ofload them.

Keep O'Meara too, good one buddy just proves you dont know much about the system in place, they cant keep any of the four 17 year olds, in the case they dont on trade them they forfeit their rights to them.

You're right I wasn't aware of this. So they have 4 17yo's they can trade but can't keep? So you think we should trade Deledio for O'Meara and another of their first rounders?
 
i do but that just my thoughts on the matter. Deledio would have to be open to it, cant force him out the door.

A deal like deledio +compo pick/14th pick for O'Meara and 5th pick. I think would be excellent but could we make GWS do this?

He's looking to give up a bloke who's 23 years old, played 150 games, dual best and fairest and almost certain to be named All Australian this year and may win his 3rd B&F :(
 
24 years old, wont be all australian and the chimp should win the best and fairest, but he has played 150 games.

There is no problem trading a good player in my book as long as you get what you consider a good deal.

There is 3 players at richmond i wouldnt even consider trading but outside of those as long as the deal is right.
 
Deledio has to be a plank for the future. Trade him for draft picks and we enter a cycle of repeatedly building for something that never eventuates. The two picks we get in exchange turn out to be Pattison and Meyer Mk II, and all of a sudden Cotchin and Martin are in their late 20's...

Our time of resurgence is near. 2013, if not next year.
 
Its a very good point, about deledio being the plank being a couple of years older than most of younger players maybe your right, not certain but i question if he is the plank or cotchin is the plank. Cotchin they must believe is their next captain, is that because he is a leader or deledio is not a leader im not certain here.

Im not suggesting we trade him for draft picks 12 and 16! hit rate on high draft picks is completly different.

Collingwood supporters would burn down the Lexus centre

We haven't won a game that counts in 20 years and now your going to give your best player.
The only time this should happen is if he ants to go.
