I reckon I could have told you that without the corporate highflying blabber Phantom.

Yeh, interesting.

He accused me of becoming too close and not being objective enough.

Maybe he's right.

As it continues, (with help from Tigerbob)....

A few choices in there.

Director of Coaching (Mentor role): - M.Malthouse / L.Matthews / K.Sheedy
Senior Coach: - D.Hardwick
Senior Coach's Executive Assistant: (Administrative) J.Longmire / R.Wiley
Junior Development Co-ordinator: C.McCrae / A.Richardson / A.McConnell / R.Hyde
Development Coaches: K.Johnson / W.Campbell
VFL Coach: J.Rawlings / S.Rehn
Midfield Coach: G. "Buddha" Hocking / A.Simpson / T.Viney / R.Wiley dual role
Defense Coach: A.Collins / L.Cameron / B.Montgomery / B.Sanderson / G.Archer
Forward Coach: D.Cloke & C.McCrae combined (talls & smalls) / P.Hudson / M.Williams / J.Longmire dual role

Specialist Ruck/Tall Fwd Coach: D.Cloke dual role / S.Rehn dual role
Specialist Tackling Coach: A.Collins dual role.
Specialist Kicking Coach: L.Cameron dual role / R.Wiley triple role.

Fitness & Running Coach: C.Falloon
Weights & Conditioning Coach: M.Dugina / B.Davoren
Physiotherapist & Fitness Coach: D.Kellaway

Certainly some options there.

theres a few good options there for coach isn't there.

Myself I would prefer a Hardwick type - one who would be very hungry.

I just question whether an older coach would have the passion to take on the Tigers list/job

One that would be as draining as it is. would malthouse really be 100% in it having to sart again - i have my doubts.

Agree.

Therefore a Director of Coaching / Mentor role would suit better.

("Borrowed" the idea off "Joffa" Loughman.)

Did he then try and sell you a 'too good to be true' investment?

I dont equate age with passion. I think, given a challenge, there are people who take that challenge front on, and there are others who don't or can't regardless of their age. One of the key requirements would be passion, although that can be very hard to judge. SOme people just live footy. I put Sheedy and Malthouse in theat category. Time has show their passion.

How any of you could want Malthouse after he's spent so long with that scum at Collingwood....!!

pfft!

Roy (and others mentioning him) Matthews categorically counted himself out of coaching in 2010. Won't happen he said

Yep, passion is a funny thing though. Often you find those that have shown great passion in the past show the same amount of passion when given a new challenge. I think at the top level of coching (or in fact many things) it is an integral part of your character.

Well today he actually said (quote)"the "correct" answer is "no". "
Prior to taking the Brisbane job, he stated that he had finished coaching and only took their call out of courtesy. (quote) "Funny what can happen" he said.
He hasn't categorically and emphatically stated he has retired or is finished coaching.

$750k per year has a way of "changing your mind". ;D

Not exactly the desired motivation for a successful coach.

???

I agree, but that is what "motivated" Matthews to take on the Lions coaching job, from what I have been told.
$750k for the first year & "progressive" increments from there.
