Have you read Hirdy's book?

Hird is driven to succeed, not just participate. But I acknowledge he is 'untried' as much as anyone is untried. Hence Sheedy - be more than handy to have around in his first year.D

I've read both of Hirdy's books and agree with Bob that he is a super impressive individual. I have little doubt he'd make a good fist of coaching as he has with whatever else he's turned his hand to.
Why he'd want to do it at all is what I question. I guess he's missing being involved in footy and loves a challenge.
If he does want to coach us he'll be on the short list that's for certain.

Hird with Sheedy his acknowledged mentor!

I agree pharace. (Apart from the reverse poetry of seeing Sheedy go to the Bombers), Hird to Richmond with Sheedy as mentor in 2010 will give us a great mix of experience and youth in the coaching ranks. We may not see instant results but I think they can get the best out of this group as well as finding the best available talent in the draft.

In fact, we can even consider looking at Sheedy as senior coach for 1-2 years with Hird as the successor - so long that there is a clear message to Sheedy that it will ONLY be a 1-2 year (max) contract and the next coach WILL be Hird. It will give Sheedy a chance to put a broom through the list and give the team a tactical direction that can continue with a stable transition to Hird.

I know I've already said that Hird gets me.....excited.....but, yeah, on On The Couch, he's just going isn't he. i mean, he should be able to put that Muppet Headed geek Sheahan well and truly in his place....but he doesn't. I've only seen it a couple of times, but....something about Hird...mmm

Also let's not get caught up in the mystic that is Kevin Sheedy, if rumors are true and Dean Laidley has aligned himself with Nathan Buckley that is just as an impressive tandem if ever I have seen one. ;)

Also yes, I will see you up north, cannot wait till the convo, should be just as interesting as last time you were down. ;D

Let's be candid, there is no mystic about Kevin Sheedy where James Hird is concerned. You might have some, but if they choose to team up (and much of the US coaching is about mentor and head coaching roles) then expect a precess to identify it as well. As sure as night follows day, we will follow that trend.

The mystic is with fans wanting Kevin Sheedy back. I know I did at one point in time.

I have no doubt James Hird has no mystic about Kevin Sheedy, in fact wouldn't be surprised if it was the other way around now :

Let's just follow procedure and go through the process. If the process comes out with a James Hird/Kevin Sheedy combo, so be it.

Will be an interesting rest of the year, we must move this process along quickly. I suspect another contestant will enter the coaching circus in the next week. ;)

Unlike us, they know who they want.

Lethal, but I think he'll be at north on $1m or on channel 7.

Lethal counted himself out - categorically. I doubted he would move from Brisbane having just built a very noice house there - never say never - but I don't think he'll go there for a couple of years at least..............

That bloke their talking about in that other thread, James Someone!! :hihi

My vote in Mick Malthouse.

There is (I feel) one major factor why we are loosing, and that is discipline.

We went so damn good in the last half of last year, you just don't loose that tallent.

Our players will be *smile* scared of mucking up with Malthouse, and he won't put up with any crap.

Malthouse has also taken a mediocre collingwood side to finals so he can achieve that with us.

I'd also be happy to see him bring with him Buckley as an assistant. Even though that guy reminds me of frankenstein, without the bolts. (talk about ugly) :)

Hardwick or buckley for me,If Mick did move from collingwood, he would be a good football manager

off the topic but heard Terry Wallace will be on sen for the rest of the season

Im sittin up her on my apple mac waiting for the sun to shine(which it does with reckless abandon up here on the Fraser coast In sunny QLD)
And I got to thinking....
James Hird?
its not as silly as it sounds guys...
Hirdy NEVER shirked an issue...
Even in a losing side he was ALWAYS a standout player
And he was a regular matchwinner and a hard taskmaster on himself and set some pretty lofty standards....
he is a footy legend and a class actas a person.....Hmmmmmmm.....as they say in horse racing parlance....hes got the form and is proven over the distance as a player ;)

Lethal given he resides in Brisbane, would be in the hunt for the Senior Coaching role at Gold Coast, why come down here and try to fix Richmond, when he could go to Gold Coast, have choice drafting picks plus choice uncontracted AFL players to form his playing list and go from there for 3 years or so, plus he'd probably get more money from GC than Richmond.

Can he stlll play for us Nitro?

I got a feeling that we're gunna be left with the scraps again (like when we were left with spud). All the talk is about Buckley going to North, Hardwick will end up at Port, Malthouse will stay put. Hird, Matthews and Sheedy wont want to do it. We'll be left with Williams (DON'T WANT!!!) Rawlings , Campbell and a few others.

Where has all the talk of Buckley going to North come from?
