Where are you Tiger Army ??

Speaking of ticketing entry, when I went on Sunday I’m standing at the turnstile, I’ve got to show my vaccination cert on the Services VIC app on my phone then show my ticket from the Google Pay app on my phone then try and show the kids tickets on the Ticketek app on my phone. Trying to find all these and swipe, I’m holding up the queue like an old grandpa! Was definitely awkward.

Yep, best thing I ever did was ditching the car 8 or so years ago. So much more relaxing trip home on the train.
You just need to know where to park.

I always drive, saves 30-45 minutes in travel to the ground and I park for free within a 10 minute walk to the ground.

Saves at least 30-45 minutes after the game as well.

On parking, train lines to the East have works on Sunday.

For the drivers - best tips for parking near Marvel that won't cost an arm and a leg? Will be coming in either via Eastern or Monash.

When I was last in the States, I don’t think I spent longer than 10 minutes total buying tickets for NFL, NHL and NBA on 4 occasions total.
That's right. And you can choose your seats in whatever stadium and game you want to go to, put price ranges in based on what you wanna pay, or select broad areas in the stadium that you want to sit in, get a picture of what the view looks like from your precise seat that you're interested in, get the tix sent electronically to your email or phone instantly.

Absolutely. Did, or has, the AFL or anyone EVER done any user acceptance testing where general ticketing and electronic memberships is concerned ? It's farcical. A second rate (almost dysfunctional) way for members and fans to attend games.

I'll tell you now, I can buy tix to any MLB, NFL, NHL or NBA game in the USA 10 x easier than I can for AFL games here in Australia. I've been doing it for 25+ years. For myself and others with me. StubHub or a plethora of other vendors, or straight from any of the leagues themselves. Bucket loads easier and more professional.
Ticketmaster and Ticketek are a disgrace. Completely dysfunctional basket case enterprises that offer zero in customer support but have somehow garnered a duopoly on the ticketing rights to major events in Australia. Pre-Covid, how *smile* hard was it to get tickets to finals matches involving Richmond. System meltdowns, delays, people online for hours trying to get tickets to a football game. Absolute nightmare; I gave up and just bought overpriced corporate package tickets from the RFC or AFL. Unfortunately not everyone can do that and it's an embarrassment that we have such a pathetic and dysfunctional system.

I got the digital membership tickets okay but because we have always had a family membership my wife's and my son's tickets get sent to me. They then had to set up their own Ticketmaster account just so they could receive the tickets!! *smile* off; just give us a membership card with a barcode like we used to get.

My experience with Midnight Oil tickets was even worse. My mate booked them and then tried to send 3 tickets to me for the people I was going with. After I finally worked out I had an old Ticketek account on a very old email address, I received one of the tickets okay. But the other two just never arrived???? We finally worked out a screen shot would be okay. Regardless the whole thing is a farce. Ticketek and Ticketmaster make squillions providing the most pathetic service I have ever encountered.

That's why I can't go anymore.
Where's the people in the holes in the southern stand gone??

I'm a reserved seat member so my tickets were allocated to my mailbox. The annoying thing was, I logged on through the app, went to my digital membership card and nothing, but logging on through my browser and everything was there. Same log on, same password, but 1 worked, the other didn't. Not sure what went wrong but barcodes on membership cards are much easier IMO.

Not only easier for those wishing to go to the footy, but also easier for the clubs, for the AFL, for the venue . . . I suppose if the ticketing morons don't get involved they don't get a cut, but they are unnecessary if you are just turning up with a membership and going into GA - in any case they are incompetent and useless so no-one wants them involved.

Paper tickets take no time to load, can be separately given to each person entering the ground and simply work. Paper is compelling technology.

Just thinking about this, I wonder if the digital ticketing is so poorly implemented because it's trying to work as one system, but in the backend it's dealing with Ticketek and Ticketmaster depending what ground (unsure if other companies in other states on top of these 2).

Then the club app is having to appear like it's 1 thing?

Anyway, as said previously, for reserved seat holders and traditional general admin (pre-seat upgrade), I cannot understand why it isn't a static barcode for the year that is enabled and disabled for relevant games, like what worked for decades. Why do I need a new code each time???

Whether it's printed on a card or on my phone (wallet or screenshot), I don't care, but shouldn't need to open the app to get a new one other than once a year imo.

No, I park near the shrine either on St Kilda Rd or around the gardens on Linlithgow or Birdwood Ave.

Have never failed to get a park for a game no matter what the time. And you don't have to pay. And its a pleasant walk through the gardens past the Sid Myer Music bowl to the ground.

Now I've told everyone I'll never get a park there again.

Hmm, are you really looking for a straight answer, or even some level of transparency and responsibility from the AFL? Dream on, but here is the info they do provide:

Are there general admission tickets available?
General admission tickets for 2022 will be available at some venues based on their state COVID requirements.

And

Can I purchase tickets at the match?
In 2022 you will be able to purchase tickets at some AFL venues based on their state COVID requirements.

So, what the AFL is saying is . . . maybe!

The site where this appears is: https://www.afl.com.au/tickets/faq

In any case they are shifting the responsibility for deciding if you can buy tickets at the ground to the home club and to the venue (hmm, makes one wonder, they own Docklands so surely they are the venue operator, yet they still can't give a straight answer?).

Long been the worst commercial enterprise to deal with in Aus. Just awful from a customer service experience. Qantas now storming up the inside - got a spare 5 hrs to wait on hold? - with Telstra rounding out the placings.

God help you with any of them if you need to speak to someone with independent thought to resolve an issue.

*smile*.

Telstra (like eBay, PayPal, Airbnb, Airtasker) just want customer contact electronically (no phone) via a chat facility and it’s abysmal. You start a chat and then after, whatever, 10,15, 20 minutes someone responds with a “kick the can down the road“ question like “what is your ID number” ( or name or whatever), you answer then it’s another 10, 20 an hour before they come back and as ask another inane question. Then after an inactive period you time out so you start again. Or they leave the chat and you have to start again. It’s infuriating.

I had a similar problem on the app a few weeks ago. Try updating it through the App Store, and it should work.
There’ll be a new set of icons near the top of the Home Screen including one for ‘My Tickets’
Hope that helps

I don't get it - just took a screenshot of my ticket and got some warning about how it won't work to get entry to the game. Really? It is an exact replica of the ticket, how can it not work while an identical image on the phone does work? We'll see. I figure they want to force me to create a google wallet or whaever they call it, ain't going to happen.

The other thing I don't get is the supposed allocated seat. Ok, so they are sending an allocated seat to every away Richmond member and all GA StKilda members? That simply does not add up. The GA areas at docklands would be, what, 40,000 seats max? There would be more StKilda GA members and Richmond away members than they have seats.

Saw wanna be commentator Gil on AFL360 prior to the first round saying it could be an all time record, I remember thinking at the time that's no chance. I have few theories on why crowds are down on the pre covid days and will stay down somewhat at least for a while and maybe a little permanently
1. People have broken the habit of going every week and got used to watching from home. Doesn't mean they won't ever go, but they'll pick and choose their games and timings and weather etc will play a part whereas in the past they went regardless.
2. Some are still worried about catching covid in a crowd.
3. Currently there's a not an insignificant portion of the population either with covid or isolating on any given day. Judging by my workplace I'd guess 5%+_. Also add the unvaxed and maybe you're at 8%.
4. People are sick of the AFL's wokeness and telling us how to think. This has been a gradual thing for a few years, I know a number of people that are gravitating to local footy instead of the AFL because of this.
5. Having to get a ticket and not walk up will limit the spur of the moment fan a tad.
6.. Specific to Richmond, if you're going to punish the highest drawing team with 3 out of their first 5 games as later afternoon Sunday games, expect a drop in crowds.

I reckon the last 2 are really affecting things. They really don't like the lack of control which comes from people deciding whether to turn op on the day. As for the scheduling of our games, geez, how stupid can you be? You want the big clubs in the prime time and at the best venues.
