Where are you Tiger Army ??

Yep!

Was back in Tas for the weekends game, so not sure if improved or not, but the wait time for amenities like getting a beer and a pie were extraordinary round 1.

Reckon Tigers of Old missed a full quarter in a line.

Understand it might be partly out of the AFL's control with staff shortages, but still a bloody big turn off when you are trying to get fans behaviour changed from sitting on the couch without those hurdles.

I’m an AFL club support member.

I got an email from club 27th January with $20 coupon for me and both kids.

Use the AFL app to get your tickets. You have an email from the AFL sent 11th March with instructions.

Yes it’s different so there is a learning curve but once you have done it once it is pretty straightforward. I’m not sure on the reserved seats part though.

I think we need to embrace the technological change or you will be just pissed off all the time. Paper and cash money will be relics of the past eventually like fountain ink pens. Not having all this waste should be good for the environment too. (Although the obsolescence of smart phones is a disaster)

However the rule changes need to be fought. These changes are infuriating.

I have entered every game for the last few years with a printed ticket, there are ways but you need to know your way around a computer. I am going to try and work out how to print my QR code for this week's game as I am going to enter via general admission (I am a Roaming Tiger Home and Away member so home games I do book my reserved seat for $2, but this will be the first time I have tried to enter GA using my QR code and not booking, we'll see what happens). Ironically my daughter needs to sort out her QR code as she has never logged on to the RFC website or app, she will need to set up her account - she is 27 so used to everything on the computer and/or phone but will need to actually get the account activated.

Looking on the app for my tickets, the ticket will be ready in a couple of days. The section/Row etc just look generic as the section is GA113 and I can see my daughter's ticket although it does have a different seat number, maybe they are making GA reserved somehow, hope not as that would be silly. Looks like I might need to sort out my daughter's account as it looks to be tied to mine.

It is all quite confusing as I can see that tickets will be available for the Richmond v Footscray match, but I have already reserved the seats for that one - I presume I also get a GA allocated seat which is simply silly.

I figure there will be GA tickets available at the ground, hope so as my daughter's BF will be buying one there as will a friend of hers who is a StKilda supporter.

So much easier with a bar code on the membership card. I can't see how this is easier for anyone: fans, the AFL, the ground etc. Just silly.

and that there is an issue.

A few years ago (pre covid) my mate and i went to the footy together.

We go for opposing teams.

We rock up, scan our membership cards and go in.

BUT NO, we cant sit together. A joke!

i had to sit at one spot and he another.

i rang up and had a chat later in the week

Apparently, we could have sat together if we paid another $28 each or whatever it was and got a prepaid ticket (even though we are members)
A joke!

Check all attendances they are all down over the first two rounds by 10-20%. Give it time. We still have mandates here which also affects people from going as some are not vaccinated.
Main Reasons>. Covid, people have been used to watching on kayo and fox. Ticketing, mobile membership the list goes on.
Rubbish time slot........just not practical for me. Make it earlier, and I'm there!

I hear ya! I still went with my wife and small children as the game finished at 6pm and was home prior to 7 pm.
But any later like those previous Sunday games at 4.40pm and it just makes it harder especially for families.
I'll be there this Sunday V saints/maddies match (3.20pm) to support the boys. Hope all tigers get along!

A print QR code option would be handy. I have to get 4 in with my 1 phone. Just a clunky process at the scanner saying go, swipe digital walter - go - swipe wallet go etc.

I found it way quicker than people fumbling around with bits of paper. Sat it under the scanner and first kid went in, swiped it once and next kid went in and swiped it one more time and we were all in in 10 seconds. With that said the AFL guy said I was a tech wizard so it wasn’t going that smoothly for everyone.

I was one of the clunky ones with my 11yo Daughter,83yo Dad and self at the gate. Club have offered to send pdf of the QR code each week for Dad. I tried to screen shot the QR codes to make it quicker, but got a message on the Tiger App saying the screen shots wont work at the Gate ! RFC guy told me it should work.... also told me AFL wont budge on the QR codes, apparently its easier for them to switch games around if they need to due to pandemic.

I have found the complete opposite. People faffing around with the brightness on their phones, scanner won't recognise the QR code on the phone etc. Meanwhile I place my printed QR code under the scanner and walk in.

What I really want to know, given that we are not booking tickets (crowds are down, we have H&A memberships), is whether we can sit anywhere once we get in to the GA area. Are the section/Row and seat numbers real? Will the crowd just treat it as GA? If seats are allocated then how come I didn't get a choice as to where I want to sit? Plus, we have likely 2 more people coming with us, one of whom is a StKilda supporter and possibly member.

I reckon we just revolt and treat it the same as GA has always been - sit wherever there are spare seats.

Plus, how have they allocated the seats? I don't know what it is like now, but Docklands has been notorious in the past for selling back row seats first and front row seats end up unsold. I trust the morons who run that place not at all to allocate seats.

Yeah I was going to GA in AFL members.

Many of the issues you state above are learning curve items. People (should) learn to turn their phone brightness to full and preload tickets to their wallet etc. but it will take some time like learning any new skill.

Agree the low transparency on where you get to sit.

If I use the phone it will be a screenshot, I'm certainly not giving away any data to some mob who want me to have a digital wallet. My wallet is leather and will stay that way, it contains cash, which I use all the time, it is legal tender in Australia and all of its Territories (says so on the note). Paper is compelling technology - it works . . . it works when the wifi is down, it works when you can't get a signal, it has no battery to run down, it does not take mountains of energy to run, it does not contain rare minerals and it is a renewable resource.

I am going to sit where I bloody well like, its general admission not reserved seats.

I don’t disagree with you that cash is effective but won’t be able to do this forever IMO. Will at least be using a card or end up with a dwindling amount of places where you can use cash. Turning into a dinosaur rapidly.

Car park at the G wouldn’t take cash which pissed me off after burning so much time on punt road - it was card only. I thought that was illegal but turns out it isn’t. A business can elect to not take cash as payment for a service / good it hasn’t yet provided.

Incorrect.

I don't have to "embrace" anything.
It's poorly designed (digital ticketing) and clearly hasn't had much HF input into it. I go to A LOT of live music venues, museums, zoos, art shows.....none of them have a ticketing system that is this convoluted.

The key is, "the market" is telling them they don't like it. Ignore your customer base and watch your revenue drop. The AFL is arrogant, as many people are saying they don't like the hand that's being dealt to them.

I'll stay away until they listen. If they don't, lots of other things to do with it time.

Sure - 100% your choice. Avoiding is another solution. I just assumed (incorrectly) people would be willing to overcome some annoyance to go to the footy.

It’s normal with any change for people to want the status quo - the AFL as you say is arrogant and do a textbook example of how not to manage a change. (Don’t explain why, don’t consult the impacted parties and don’t listen)

If they turn enough people off then maybe we will see a change but I’m not holding my breath with the AFL.

Agree with this and did likewise - with 2 tickets on my phone at the entry. That was the easy bit.

But earlier I’d had to download 5 tickets via my account and then send 3 of them on to others. That was messy and given that they are all the same reserved seats we’ve had for years - I’d much prefer to use our membership cards.

I'm not sure where you are going with this. I assume you both have GA memberships, so why can't you sit together in the GA sections of the ground (ie. they are non reserved seating) so you should have been able to sit there, or does 1 of you have reserved seating?

I'm a reserved seat member so my tickets were allocated to my mailbox. The annoying thing was, I logged on through the app, went to my digital membership card and nothing, but logging on through my browser and everything was there. Same log on, same password, but 1 worked, the other didn't. Not sure what went wrong but barcodes on membership cards are much easier IMO.

Absolutely. Did, or has, the AFL or anyone EVER done any user acceptance testing where general ticketing and electronic memberships is concerned ? It's farcical. A second rate (almost dysfunctional) way for members and fans to attend games.

I'll tell you now, I can buy tix to any MLB, NFL, NHL or NBA game in the USA 10 x easier than I can for AFL games here in Australia. I've been doing it for 25+ years. For myself and others with me. StubHub or a plethora of other vendors, or straight from any of the leagues themselves. Bucket loads easier and more professional.

When I was last in the States, I don’t think I spent longer than 10 minutes total buying tickets for NFL, NHL and NBA on 4 occasions total.
