Where are you Tiger Army ??

Not having a fixture for the whole year (while clearly a non factor for the first 9 rounds) may also impact slightly, especially for people who need to travel (non-metro/interstate) and/or people who would try to plan around footy for booking dates for weddings, parties etc that are in advance. Probably a very minor factor compared to the others, but it still annoys me when trying to pick dates for planned events

I don't get it - just took a screenshot of my ticket and got some warning about how it won't work to get entry to the game. Really? It is an exact replica of the ticket, how can it not work while an identical image on the phone does work? We'll see. I figure they want to force me to create a google wallet or whaever they call it, ain't going to happen.

The other thing I don't get is the supposed allocated seat. Ok, so they are sending an allocated seat to every away Richmond member and all GA StKilda members? That simply does not add up. The GA areas at docklands would be, what, 40,000 seats max? There would be more StKilda GA members and Richmond away members than they have seats.

I have 3 memberships attached to my RFC account
I just screen shot the QR codes send them to my sons via text and they scan them to get in, never had a problem, so screen shots definitely do work

Yep - have found this works well too

Edit - I screenshot the ticket and QR code i.e. the digital ticket as downloaded
Not sure if you were saying you screenshot only the QR code itself

Long been the worst commercial enterprise to deal with in Aus. Just awful from a customer service experience. Qantas now storming up the inside - got a spare 5 hrs to wait on hold? - with Telstra rounding out the placings.

God help you with any of them if you need to speak to someone with independent thought to resolve an issue.

*smile*.
Agree Fudd. All the banks running into a placing as well. Need to change something or get one of their stuff ups fixed ? They want you to do it online. Then, their stuff up doesnt actually allow you to do anything online ! So you get on the phone to - heaven forbid - try and speak to a human, and you’re on hold for 50 minutes only to get some numptie from the Phillipines who just wants to keep asking about your personal details coz they really have no idea how to help you. Then, when that’s obvious to both parties, said numptie tries to transfer you to someone else and you’re on hold again…and go through the same crap again.

I spent two hours with the Bank of Melbourne yesterday trying to get my online access re-instated after a system error of theirs had dropped all my logon and psssword details.

**** infuriating.

Another factor next weekend, affecting some that travel to Melbourne from the provinces, is that hotel accommodation prices have quadrupled or quintupled in honor of the Grand Prix.

I did the same for Round 1 but had all 3 tickets on my phone. It was super quick to get in.

The problems people have at the turnstiles are usually 1 of 2 things. The brightness on their phone is too dark, or they have zoomed in. The turnstiles actually work better when they are the same size as what the app shows you.

Not just the banks. Foxtel grrrr.

I moved house yesterday, rang up with plenty of advance time as I knew my new house didn't have a dish. Got told, oh thats easy, the IQ4 box now works over the internet. So I get in, connect it up last night and no pictures. Cue the next 2 hours of my life taken away from me. I was using their text app and got passed around at least 7 people swapping between tech support and moving house department. I think it was the 5th person who finally told me I needed to reconfigure the box through a setup position and when I clicked on that it was still looking for the satellite data (despite saying I had no physical connection, at least 2 of the people asked me to check the connection on the wall plate - put down the cue cards dickheads and actually read what I had said). Went through that process, but then says the box isnt activated (seems easy to fix right), so I then got transferred again, and again, the last person tells me to press the blue button to come out of that screen (even though others told me to restart my box) and lo and behold the picture was then working, but 2 freaking hours later!!

ISP carriers eg TPG, Telstra, iiNet etc ?

Forget about it. 1300 numbers that just direct you to some totally ineffective online self-help link. Nobody…and mean nobody… answers a call or email.

Saw wanna be commentator Gil on AFL360 prior to the first round saying it could be an all time record, I remember thinking at the time that's no chance. I have few theories on why crowds are down on the pre covid days and will stay down somewhat at least for a while and maybe a little permanently
1. People have broken the habit of going every week and got used to watching from home. Doesn't mean they won't ever go, but they'll pick and choose their games and timings and weather etc will play a part whereas in the past they went regardless.
2. Some are still worried about catching covid in a crowd.
3. Currently there's a not an insignificant portion of the population either with covid or isolating on any given day. Judging by my workplace I'd guess 5%+_. Also add the unvaxed and maybe you're at 8%.
4. People are sick of the AFL's wokeness and telling us how to think. This has been a gradual thing for a few years, I know a number of people that are gravitating to local footy instead of the AFL because of this.
5. Having to get a ticket and not walk up will limit the spur of the moment fan a tad.
6.. Specific to Richmond, if you're going to punish the highest drawing team with 3 out of their first 5 games as later afternoon Sunday games, expect a drop in crowds.
3. Would say up to 10% in iso at any given time..... 10,000 cases a day say three family members and a couple of others means 50000 X 7 days = 350k at home
2. Easily 10% of people are very wary of catching COVId and attempting to avoid situations they consider risky. If you are wearing a mask in a shop I doubt you are going to sit amongst strangers for 2.5 hours
6. True
5. This is a trend been going on for years but now cemented in. Days of meeting up at a pub and heading off to ground with whoever of your mates have turned up gone forever.

I went on the RFC website and, lo and behold, I can get a ticket with a bar code, not a QR code, a genuine, apparently now old fashioned, bar code. I have noticed the QR codes are slower to read than bar codes so we'll see how it goes with that.

I like my paper tickets, no need to set the brightness, no need to check the battery, just hold it under the scanner and walk in.

Also, after delving into the FAQs, I think on the RFC site but possibly the AFL site, it says that, despite the bay and seat numbers on the tickets, it is actually sit wherever you can find a seat. Good old general admission. Almost reminds me of the old days when hardly any of the ground was reserved seats and you could get a nice seat near the front on level 1 in general admission, those days are well gone unfortunately.

Last week was embarrassing for a club with 90k members. What are the numbers going to be at marvel today? Surely gotta best GC with 5k members who attended

The other embarrassing thing this week will be the wide open spaces on level 1 while lots of people will be on level 3. If the seats are not sold on level 1 they should be general admission.

Capitalism at work. If demand < supply then artificially constrain supply so you keep prices high.

thank thuck i didnt watch that insipid display at the ground.

Went to the pub, watched first half alongside some races.
25pts up, in control.

Went home to relax on the couch, i wasnt relaxed.

that was terrible.

glad i didnt go, again had the option to, but decided against it.

REasons...

1. didnt want to sit on level 3
2. 90 mins at pub with a late lunch and then home to relax and watch the game on TV sounded better.

Round 4 average game attendance of 26,199
  • Lowest for the year
  • Lower than any round in 2019, 2018 or 2017
  • But admittedly higher than round 14 2016 (which was over the bye, had 6 games, 2 of which were a gws home game and a york park game, dragging the average down)
  • Tiges v dogs a not-terrible-not-amazing 43k, but that was highest by a lot, with next highest attended game 13k less
But 419,000 people at the grand prix, a record.

Maybe a lot of the reasons discussed are noise, with it really boiling down to people not liking the current AFL product? I know I personally used to watch as many games as I could over a weekend, and now find AFL level footy a chore to watch unless it's a Richmond game.

*But I still hate the ticketing system

How many more weeks of poor crowds until the penny drops for the AFL.

Time for the arrogance and urine taking to end, they know that the Stand rule is not popular.

The time is long overdue that they started to listen.

It's the peoples game, not the AFL's.

Gill will come up with some excuse. Media spin.
