When will Bernie go !!

Not quite broders. Would be a shared responsibility I would think. Coach can only do so much if players get stage fright. Or if we simply get beaten by a better team on the day. But some will absolve players of responsibility and blame Hardwick 100% regardless of the circumstances. It's happened in previous finals losses (in fact losses full stop). That's just how some around here roll. Let's hope we don't get to find out.

Players were set up to fail in previous years Toby.

Our 15 win a season players in 13 and 15 would have eked out another win or two without having to cater for Hardwick's stifling over caution or his drones.

Like you though I will wait to see how things evolve. If we give it our best and fall short no complaints from me. If Hardwick changes course or freezes in the box as he has in the past then that's a different matter.

I still remember the 2015 Elimination Final. Sitting in the crowd, we were shown the Tigers preparing to run out on the ground. Cotchin took a deep breath and had terrified look on his face as he ran out.

Thinking back, there was huge pressure on the players all season because of the "haven't won a final" line that was trotted out on every TV show, every interview and was in every newspaper article. That pressure was unfair on the players an, in my opinion, it was an unnecessary monkey on their backs.

Hardwick and co have been much more mature about this in 2017. They have ignored it to the point where it is almost meaningless. I'm sure all the commentary around "we are just going to embrace it" is related.

If Hardwick selects Griffiths he is fair game.

Our head coach has a history of reverting to conservative thinking precisely when boldness is required.

We are playing beautifully. Teams struggle to cope with our forward line.

A second forward tall is yesterday's thinking. It's about pressure and mobility.

Already clubs are looking to offload KPPs.

Please don't blink Dimma. Finish the good work you started.

What we see and what the players are actually feeling can be completely different. While the right noises are being made publicly, whether it affects the little voices inside of each players head on Friday night only the players will know.

Coping with the pressure of the situation is a bigger challenge than coping with Geelong IMO. Can't wait to see how they handle it!

Ditto for me.

Good post. The players have been given ownership of mental preparation I reckon.

The psychologist was given the flick.

They will go out to have fun and play hard. It's a good, liberating, inspired philosophy and it works for this generation of players.

Yep. Experience is a big word in anyone's life.

Yep win and we will be favourites for the flag. Our GF opponents likely to be interstate teams or teams that have played 3 finals.

Our preliminary opponent if we beat Geelong will definitely be one of Adelaide Giants WCE or Port.
We've beaten the last three the last time we played them.

I don't think we will change much Baron but to me we would be better with another tall in the forward line. Late in games especially it hurts us, we cannot kick down the line and we constantly get out marked.

There is no point changing something when that player is not available though. Griffiths is a month away from being ready.

Its why Caddy is so important to us, he makes contests against taller opposition bringing the smalls into the game. Hardwick has used Caddy really intelligently this year and credit to Caddy who has played a selfless role at times.

I read a very good article about Spain’s 3-nil demolition of the Azzurri last night and this paragraph caught my eye and had me thinking about Hardwick’s game day coaching - Giampiero Ventura (the coach of the Italian National Soccer side) continues to insist the 4-2-4 project must be worked on to grow, but there is such a thing as tactical nous in a big match and adjusting to counter your opponent’s strengths. The CT seems to believe sticking to your guns is more important than learning from mistakes, but that kind of tactical fundamentalism can only lead to disaster – Hardwick faces another finals series and I will be looking at 2 things.

The mental makeup of the Tigers and wondering if the same fragility will reveal itself, again, and see our best players disappear during the game; and watching Hardwick like a hawk and see if he is able to make moves, if required, not only to counter Geelong, but win the game. If next Friday’s game continues to reveal Hardwick’s “deer-in-the-car light” approach to game day coaching, while out on the field the Tigers become “shrinking violets” again on the big stage I would hope the club move the coach on in the off-season.

Alex Rance may have inadvertently given an insight into life at Richmond this season compared to previous seasons when he intimated that having somebody scream at you to "stay calm" doesn't really work. He said that the entire club is very relaxed, calm and embracing the upcoming finals campaign this season.

All praise be to Balmey.

He's a big sook but Scott has a high tactical iq. No doubt they'll take away our strengths but it's up to Hardwick and co to come up with a way to find that winning move or formula. I do not have faith in this.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get thumped to be honest. I don't trust Dimma on match day.
