When will Bernie go !!

Does anyone disagree we play a different game style this year to last? That's not even up for debate is it?

Also not up for debate is your inability to grasp the simple notion that the arrival of Blake Caracella as ball movement coach coincided with a drastic improvement in... ball movement... and the career-best form of players variously dismissed as "vanilla", "slow" and "soft" by so-called experts on here.

I do not include you in that group. You have often admitted to knowing very little and in so doing demonstrated an acute self-awareness.

Running Patterns.

This is the key area of improvement that's seen us improve overall. There's been alot of commentary about our improved ball movement but it's running patterns that allows you to move the ball better and quicker.

I've complained for years that we are statues on the field. Standung and marking territory instead of running hard to support the ball carrier or to provide a release option upfield. It's all mindset and training patterns. You play as you train. It's about knowing where to run and when to run

In past years we would almost always hit a brick wall when moving the ball around due to a lack of release options. Players were static and reluctant / confused as to when and where to run. Dusty and Cotch would try to make the play but had nowhere to go.

Now we have players streaming off half back for a handball receive. We have players streaming into an open goal all the time. Watch our first goal last week and you can see running options everywhere in the lead up.

This change in running patterns didn't just happen coz the players are trying harder. Clear strategy to improve our running patterns occurred during last preseason.

I now see us playing modern football that not only is sustainable and can take us to the big dance, but one that will assist the development of players coming through.

Yep. The crux of the issue is that this holistic change shoulda been driven by the head coach from day one and not forced on him after four wasted years.

Doesn't engender much confidence in Dimma's ability to read the play.

Turning circle of the QE2 both on match day and over summer.

This will hold us back from optimal performance.

Brandon Ellis, Foxsports article:

Wholesale change — with the exception of coach Damien Hardwick — preceded the season, as a plethora of experienced assistant coaches were installed to reboot the club.

“It was disappointing to see them go, but it was also refreshing to see some new faces,” Ellis says.

“Justin Leppitsch is back and Blake Caracella, who is a tactical genius, has come in from Geelong. He’s been awesome for us.”

Wrong I'm sorry. There's an accountant at Ernst and Young who worked it all out in lasts year's review. :) he should now be coaching the pies, his a genius

Great post Harry.

This was in full force against the Saints.

The MCG suits this style.

Obviously the previous assistant coaches had been holding us back for years, Dimma's had changes and adjustments to the playing tactics every year since 2013, all to no avail as the assistants either couldn't implement or support what Dimma was trying to get the team to do. New assistants to help implement his new game plan and voila, in with a chance of playing deep into finals. Doesn't hurt that a whole layer of second tier players are now fully matured and injury free, or that a bunch of exciting youngsters that showed hints and glimpses past year have further evolved.

Never had a premiership capable list over recent years, an elite core supported by an unreliable second tier n bugger all third tier. Still have my doubts ( would be absolutely ecstatic to be proven wrong ) that we can achieve better than a prelim this year. But there's still enough growth n development in our youngsters over the next couple of years to give us a half decent chance of pushing hard for a few years yet.

Blake Caracella came over from Geelong who have been one of the best running and ball movement teams in recent years. No doubt he brought over some IP on running patterns

Carts cant fathom why you and others persist in point scoring at this time of the year.

Step down from the perch for a while and enjoy the ride, its a beautiful thing.

At this point no one need to play the superior card.

It doesnt matter how it happened or who you want to attribute or not attribute the change to.

The change in game plan and style is there for all to see, enjoy.

It been a good year and very well may turn out to be a great year

Do you ever disagree with anything your brother says?

the other day he reckoned XXXX was better than Tooheys.

and at the start of the year, he reckoned we'd be top 6 and I reckoned top 4.

but, hes my big brother, and he's pretty smart. so not often.

What happened in here? did someone throw in a cyber-shovel full of Cymbalta?

Agree. It's a beautiful thing. Hopefully Dimma holds up the cup this year.

Bah this is just sport, a bit of banter. I agree Maps, it's bloody exciting.

Three games at the G.

We can beat anyone there.

The cards have fallen so bloody beautifully. I have a funny feeling in the guts and it ain't just the curry I had for dinner.

Exactly. The changes made preseason have made the Tigers a pleasure to watch and support. Who knows what our ceiling will be this year

I reckon snakes right leysy.

pretty much anything the misery crew have said from spring '16 - up to and including round 23, has been wrong.

some blokes have been louder and more self assured in their delivery of vast volumes of inverse information, but the core crew all have to accept they got it pretty darn wrong.

Not Harry mate. What he's said we've needed has been spot on. And has proven to be so now that we have implemented exactly what he's wanted.

His post below explains it.

He's not. It's half truths. Straw men and diversionary tactics. I could go into detail. But what's the point?

Nah, as above again.

There is no strawman or diversion from Harry.

He's got a good football brain and has explained where out pitfalls have been for years.

Fixed what he said and boom. All of a sudden guys who consensus said were average are now playing great football.

That's because of the running patterns and system we are playing. Everyone automatically improves.

Blake and the other assistants have done an outstanding job, I've said that many times. They've had a great impact on how we ply our trade on the field this year.

Understanding that hardly makes any of us footballing geniuses. It's not controversial.

I wonder what will happen with this thread if we go out in straight sets? It's possible of course because if we lose to the cats we will likely face the red hot swans.

I am excited but not overly confident about the finals. I still think we have some super young talent coming on that will make us a much better team again in 2018-19.

All we need is a half decent CHF who can pinch hit in the ruck

You obviously need the dots joined. The stark turnaround in ball transition raises questions around the head coach.
