I think we will improve this year too...

We are real sh1te if we can't improve on last year!!

All looking (expecting) to get in the eight!

We both have differing opinions on the state of our list...

But getting back in the 8 will be a huge feet. Will need a lot to go right! Not expecting much, but looking FWD to the year ahead. Thank Pastafarian footy is back! Results will speak for themselves. Consequences will follow!

Gee, I think I've become allergic. First downer presser I've watched all pre season.

Amazing how out of the loop he is. Admitted Blake is in charge of ball movement and that he'll let everyone know what's happening with the leadership group as soon as he finds out (from Balmey?)

Same nervous twitches, laughs and throat clearing.

Absolutely nothing of value offered.

The heavy breaths and eye squinting are still there. What's with the 3 day growth?

He seems genuinely enthused and energised for what lies ahead. Has also seemed to embrace the change that swept through the footy dept late last yr. Big tick from me.

His point about Jack was also valid IMO. Poor, slow movement would mean that your forwards would be drawn out further from goal. Clearly the case with Jack.

Also indicated that players need to be freed up so that they can play to their strengths. Many pundits here have been banging on about the same thing.

If Dimma can learn from the mistakes of last yr and if ALL COACHES can preach the same message to players in a united fashion then maybe, just maybe we can bounce back very strongly.

Obviously Dimma is not comfortable in front of the camera but that of itself does not mean that he can't coach. TW anyone....

Wow he has realised. Definitely worth the pay packet then..

well thanks for the late *smile* news, Sandra Sully.

Saying that would have been like having a tooth pulled for Dimma.

He has failed to do that for 7 years.

I think we'll improve, but the majority of other clubs will improve more than us.
Agree.
We have to improve on last year.
From woeful in 2016 to hopefully competitive against the middle tier clubs.
We won't be anywhere near the final 8 at years end.
So it's bye bye Dimma.

Reckon Dimma is a better coach right now then he has ever been......
He will be, now that he has been stripped of many of his powers and is being given direction on what to do.

Looks like a new game plan to me.
Emphasis on fast ball movement.
We even went through the corridor on occasions.
So has Dimma finally woken up or is Balmey pulling his strings?

Blake is in control of ball movement

At the game it is obvious we are getting more players in front of the ball and also playing more direct.

I think we should get better as the season progresses. Three times in the first quarter we had players in space forward (Martin twice who had 10 or 15 metres separation from his opponent) but our players coming through the wing just didn't see them and kicked inside.

You'd think that these kinks would work themselves out over time.

Third and fourth quarters we scored 5 goals which is a good result for shortened quarters.

From the low base he has delivered anything else is an improvement.

Yes Lamby it's very instructive to see how we set up at centre bounces. Over the past few years we've had Riewoldt, Vickery and one or two others lining up on the forward edge of the square.

The idea is that we control the ball offensively and advance the ball in a moving grid. Too often the players would sh!t themselves from all Dimma's conditions because he seems to be the only coach who actively drives instinct from his players.

So the ball gets coughed up in this grid or is panic-kicked to an empty forward line. Dimma comes out and says we don't want to play like that and the fans tear their hair out.

Based on last night's limited evidence we are now setting up with a multi-tiered forward line for the first time in years.

This has a couple of talls (Jack, Griff) camped along the HF line giving the young and the bold something to kick long to. If it works, it goes to the deep forward. Fast.

Trust in the players. Something Dimma, in his obsessive control, has been loathe to do.

No doubt the old methods will come straight back if the players fail to repay him with manic pressure. This is admittedly something the players have been poor at in Dimma's reign (apart from 2013 perhaps).

Also, I think the forward press failed too often last night. Some work to do but I think Dimma knows we need to score more regularly.
