Not professing to know it all, just what I have deduced from the happenings over the last year. I think it's fair to state that Dimma would not have a job if he was not prematurely re-signed at the beginning of last year. Instead of the board acknowledging their error and removing him they instead went for the next best alternative and removed a number of personnel that Hardwick had chosen to help deliver his master plan. They also introduced Neil Balme to oversee the footy department. Imo Caracalla was identified by the club as a bloke they wanted. As opposed to Hardwick identifying and hiring his own choice. There has also been clear direction coming from the club that we will be moving the footy faster and essentially the old gameplan is out. Caracalla has been instructed to focus on ball movement. IMO the club has removed a lot of areas that Hardwick previously controlled and given him a clear blueprint of what they want. I think they finally realise he is very limited in his ability to innovate, develop and adapt.

That premature resigning told the football world, loud and clear, that the people running RFC have NFI.

At some point you just gotta give the next guy a go. Players have heard the same message for far too long.

With the approach you mention you could mount an argument to retain Hardwick indefinitely... which you might want?

this leads me to a question... Dimma has coached for 7 years (soon to be 8) and 134 games (will be 156 games come round 23 if he's still there) without a finals win. is this an AFL record? surely has to be...?
