When will Bernie go !!

I wonder what tests a coach more? Winning with a team of kids or winning with established players.

Who was in charge of ball movement last year, before Caracela arrived?

Invented for Blake. Called ball movement rather than game plan to avoid embarrassment.

The coaches are a team just like the players are. This year we've got a better team of coaches than we had last year.

When I was young the coaches were Jewell (post '80), Bourke, Patterson, Sproule, Bartlett, Jewell, Walls, Jeans, Geischen, Frawley, Wallet.. (well I was kind of young at this point. Younger than now anyway). T Hafey was coaching Collingwood.

So I basically never saw a good coach at Richmond when I was young.

Different story today though

Do Richmond supporters have blinkers on and can't see the good for the bad? What about Northey? He was a good coach. I think you're being a little unfair on some of the others. Polishing turds is something best left to the AFL.

My post was written slightly tongue-in-cheek, given our lack of success since 1980. Apologies to Northey for leaving him out but he wasn't a standout in my opinion either.

Swooper was pretty unsophisticated. His half-time speech was usually

'win this fellas, and the *smile* is free at Craig's'

yep. he wasn't a strategist by any stretch of the imagination. he was more of a motivator. and clearly he was very good at it.

Northey coached FOUR AFL clubs and was probably the most successful coach at both Melbourne and Richmond over the last 30 years.
Just happened to get his men playing committed aggressive team footy and achieving (relative) success.
"unsophisticated?"
But matched against your experience of AFL coaching he was such a poor limited coach.

I'm just biased though since I played under Northey when he won 3 premierships at Redan in four years in the Ballarat Football League.
Maybe you should get the opinion of some of his players before belittling him.

But Ballarat in the 80's wasnt renown for its sophistication.
