Welcome to the Tiggers - Daniel Butler

Will need to be a lot better if he gets a game next week against the Hawkers. Nine disposals 0 goals, from 80% game time compared to Baker's 10 disposals, 2 goals from 36% game time. Missed a lot of football last year, so will cut him some slack.

He missed a significant part of last season and is probably building his confidence.

Is a very important player in the scheme of things.

Agree, first hit out in a long time for Dan, will build if needing to play VFL I think the selectors will do that.

Since 2017 I have more confidence in selection (I know and agree on the PF, I'm generalizing)

this guy is super important for us. Laid three tackles resulting free kicks for us, provides plenty of opportunities for goals.

A fit Dan Butler is a big bonus for us.

IMHO the critics of Butler are too harsh and the fans of his overate his input, no doubt his strength in this 22 is his pressure and tackling and you must have that elite pace he does to play the role effectively and some of his goals and roving are sublime, however some of his brain fades and decision making is bush footy terrible at times, Premiership player who no doubt will be there at n round 1 and if somebody is going to take his spot there going to have put some big runs on the board in the magoos

Anybody who thinks he is not in our best 22 does not have much of an idea.

We bow to your superior judgement.
I personally would make him find form in the twos.
Baker, Rioli, Weller and Higgins all in better touch. Unless you're picking on reputation alone.

Butler needs Castagna and Rioli, just as Castagna needs Butler and Rioli, just as Rioli needs Butler and Castagna! Their partnership is undersold sometimes. We haven’t had the 3 amigos together since the Grand Final and our fwd half hasn’t quite had the same dynamic impact since... particularly in regards to fwd pressure.

Yep. Massive love hate relationship with the Geezer n all in the same qtr, nearly every qtr. All peaks n troughs with little smooth flow so far.

I like that.

And to be clear, I love girls with curls

Im just glad he has gotten his sh!t game out of his system before the season has started, Thats done now he can kill carlton

I reckon the criticism is OTT. Pre-season game, probably given licence to crank the risk and unpredictability meter up to 11 for a practise match, and its a practice match. You'd reckon he'd done a Taylor Hunt v Collingwood or Lennon V Geelong the way some are carrying on.

Yeah/Nah

Win and you can carry a couple ....

One of those players that will play better in the ones than twos.
So put him in the twos to rot...or back him and hope he comes good.

Currently being carried.

I agree. His game was actually good but he does some really silly things that are highlighted. Could have had 5 goals but when he does those things like playing on hen 20m out, passing when he should just be snapping from the goaline and dinky kicks at goal are very obvious hence why I think some have gone so hard at him.

If he could cut this sort of stuff out of his game then he could easily be one of the best smalls in the game.

I thought butler was good. No doubt he butchered about 4 scoring chances. Had he not though he would have ended up with 4 or 5 goals. Defensively he was massive.

Also thought Noah was good. Got first hands on so many marking and ruck contests. On another day the possessions and goals would come.

I reckon Butler had a fair to good game yesterday except for the showboating that did him and the team no favours. Needs to be more selfish and not give away goals by suicide passing of the ball. Otherwise I liked his tackling and harrying all evening

Had a couple of brain farts no doubt, but this was his game against the Hawks:

Good:4 scoring shots and 9 tackles.
Bad: 45% disposal efficiency.

I reckon we undersell how good he is and that he hasn't played top level footy in more than 6 months. We missed him tremendously last year and haven't had the 3 amigos together in a year. Irrespective of the rule changes, the 3 amigos are still a key part of our forward line structure.
