Can’t wait to watch this bloke next season.Love him!
I know he is essentially a small forward but at times I see a bit of Axel Foley about him with the way he cuts through traffic so hope to see him in the mids a little more in 2019

He did play midfield as a junior and was pretty good hope he gets a run at Richmond

Expecting both Geezer n Sausage to spend more time rotating through mid field next year. Should be totally unpredictable for opposition coaches with the swarm of dangerous players that we'll have rotating through mid and forward.

Doesn't have Axel's burst or side step. Deer in headlight in traffic.
Small forward for mine. And a very good one at that.

Are you talking about Butler here ???
Doesnt have burst of speed ?
No Sidestep ??

These are 2 of his best traits imo , He is lightening fast and has more tricks than he should imo

Yeah, have to agree here. Are you sure you're talking about Butler, DA?

Saying Butler has no sidestep and burst is like saying Townsend is soft.

My comment was more based on the comparison to Foley. I’ve seen Butler run into trouble in congestion too many times. He seems to panick and actual runs towards the opposition player. Foley also had that blistering power off the mark that a few players like Dangerfield and Gary Rohan have and also a side step that allowed him to weave out of trouble.
That is why I don’t see the comparison with Foley. The speed is there no doubt but not the power and evasiveness. Doesn’t mean of course that he can’t play midfield or that I’m saying he’s slow.

Just watched the Port away win (from 2017) a couple of nights ago.

What a scrappy shocking game.

We didn't get going till about 5 minutes before 3/4 time.
(if you remember the Rioli Goal from the pocket on the run, then Dustbuster kicked the exact same Goal from the exact same spot about 2 minutes later!)

Both sides kept fumbling and kicking the ball to each other.
Everyone was muffing shots at goal. Matty White missed 3 sitters against his old side.

Anyway Butts seemed like the only one capable of finding the sticks there for a while.
He ended up with 3 Goals out of our 11 Goals.

Can't believe how much we missed him after the Adel win when he got injured.

I’ve said it before, I reckon between missing Butler and Rioli for large chunks of the season it really impacted us.

Looking forward to the 3 amigos staying fit in 2019.

Bingo.
Probably the only area I'd fault Geezer n I'll put it down to youthful exuberance and inexperience at the moment. Has the little brain fart moment occasionally, just when you think he's going to rip a hole n open up a passage of play. He'll step into instead of out of traffic, take a bounce as he's about to be tackled, or hesitate over whether to take the ball, knock it on or toe poke it through a gap n crap out.
It's only a minor issue n if it wasn't a Tiger player farking it up it'd be as funny as hell. Kids got way more good stuff going for him than the odd brain fart stuff up, he's quality.

Not saying he is anything like Eddie Betts but the stats are almost identicle at the same age , People here need to realise that Dan Butler is just 22 years old and for the position he plays these small fowards usually dont hit their peak until 24/25 and are still learning their trade. Things will improve more for the likes of Butley,George & Daniel with Lynch in the team creating more contests.

Spot on. I've seen Butler many times run into trouble, like running into a brick-wall. Yes i've also seen a little side-step here and there in the fwd 50 to evade a player but that is totally different compared to the heat of battle in the midfield ,where there are many players all hunting for the ball, he doesn't have that real composure or awareness in those split second moments as you need as a gun midflelder. His best asset is his pace and SPACE is his domain, not in tight in the clenches in the midfield with multiple players around him.

I like the cut of your jib Mikey. And it’s probably why they don’t play him in the midfield which is where Foley played!!
Don’t see a midfielder myself.
If you want to talk midfielder potential, ask me about Rioli. Just add body strength and stir

Thanks for the numbers turk. Geezer stacks up nicely in comparisons, he's quality n barring injury should only get better as he matures.

I think if we can keep his body right that is upside is still huge. With his pace and deft ball movement the opposition need to put time into him or he will punish. What I’m looking for is a harder edge from him.

Dan Butler lacks urgency when the ball is not handed to him on a platter or delivered in space where he can use his pace.
Concedes position too easily, is reactive and is unwilling to scrap and fight, and i'm not just basing that on yesterday.
He needs to sit down and watch tapes of Jack Higgins when the ball is in his area, and learn from Higgo's desperation to halve a contest even when he is out of position.
Dan would not want to rest on his laurels and think his pace will ensure his spot.
Needs some time with McFly for mine to harden up.

Agree. My most frustrating player to watch.

Seems to have lost all aspects of urgency. Playing like the spot is his purely based on his 2017 form. Agree needs a kick up the backside. Perhaps a few vfl games may do that
