Welcome to the Tiggers - Daniel Butler

Simple. If they really want to take a punt on Butler it has to be Higgins. Yes he has held his own this year and had a good game against Hawks but he is the only logical replacement. Conca has to stay as he is one of a few we have that can tackle. I'm still a little concerned over Graham's shoulder. He does any sort of injury and our midfield would have no tackling pressure apart from Prestia. The rest of our mids aren't really great tacklers. Cotchin is more a battering ram. Martin doesn't tackle. Prestia would be the only one left carrying the load. Cadddy not a huge tackler either.

I'd almost be tempted to do the Butler - Higgo swap. We get a jump on them early with the forward pressure and it could be game over by half time. That would mean Higgins tank would not play as big a part.

Only reason i would leave Higgins in at the moment is purely down to his ability to go the 4 quarters.

Just won't happen. Conca one of the few who can tackle? Tigers are a very strong tackling team. 5th for tackles compared to opposition even though we are only 14th in total tackles. This just confirms how fast we play and how hard it is to pin us down with tackles. One thing I have seen a huge improvement over the last couple of years is the quality of our tackles. I certainly wouldn't leave Conca out personally but nor would I leave Higgins out, he's been super important to our structure and his unique ability to make something out of nothing in front of goals. I agree there is a risk with Graham and his shoulder which is another reason Conca stays. To me that further supports the argument not to bring Butler in, not to replace Higgins.

One thing I can't remember us doing in finals is getting a jump on the opposition and the game being over by half time. That's not our game. Our game is to grind away with pressure until the opposition can take it no longer. And that's how it will most likely play again against Collingwood.

I couldnt see how he couldve come in for such a game under done, this game is going to require 4 quarters of hard slog.

Short answer - No!
Team announced - no change and Butler not even an emergency

Game lost at the selection table.
Who’s organising Mad Monday?

im a Buttler fan but some players take couple games to get going and we haven’t got a couple of games.

To risk of a game to play him

I reckon you are right and an injury is the only way he will play again this season. A bit stiff on Geezer but right for the club

Yep - tough call to have made but good decision

No coincidence now that you look back at the season.

Check out his midfield clearance work here

Along with Rioli, a big pre-season and a year older, a definite possibility that he pushes up.
Dan is over 6ft which would surprise many..

Geez, I was expecting to see some recent footage. That's from 2014. It didn't look that impressive to me either, he was getting caught a lot with tackles but breaking out because they aren't as strong at that age. From that I'd say there's no way he moves to a midfielder role, he probably would have already had a lot of exposure to that at VFL level if that was his game. Rioli's a different story, he has that extra class and can turn on a dime.

Disagree with Lovey , great highlights. If Butler becomes a 20 plus player through wing or the guts we will be better for it.

Pace and composure from stoppages is gold. We missed him in the finals and in retrospect Butler for Conca was the go, even with limited preperation.

Butler is a good player but like Short his contested game is a worry. Some of his efforts this year especially interstate were frustrating to watch.
