Welcome to the Tiggers - Daniel Butler

Not sure why he went back on v Crows.
We were pantsing them at the time.
I had a chuckle when he nearly tripped on the interchange when he was getting ready to come back on.
I didn't twig till about a month later when they said he got a jab.
Prob explains why he couldn't feel his foot.
Amazingly he kicked a goal soon after.
Just dumb to put him back on.

Yep the Docs have been great, even awesome this year.
But they cocked this one up good and proper.

We should have copped the surgery straight away. We probably thought we could get him right in 2 weeks without surgery instead of 3 with surgery. Here we are 10 weeks later in a struggle to get him right.

Probably goes to show how highly we rate him that we wanted him back ASAP, but yeah, we've mangled this one. Must be frustrating for him watching Lambert cop a similar injury but he's down and up again in 6 less weeks than Butler has taken.

Ankles like foot injuries can be worse then doing a ACL.
Foley was never the same player after his ankle injury.

Shame for Geezer but looks out of time to prove his health. He's definitely best 22 if fit.

I reckon theres a pretty big silver lining.

Higlet plays, and its not that difficult to mount a case he's an upgrade.

and thats not really running geez down at all.

Easy to say in hindsight. It's never black and white. I doubt Tigers would have held off on surgery if it meant 2 versus 3 weeks. I like Butler but I wouldn't rate him that highly that you try and play smart of a 1 week gain. Some respond better, some worse to the same injury and same treatment.

Had Butters only missed 2 weeks he would have been playing in the RD 19 Collingwood game which was a pretty big game for us in terms of our chase for top spot at the time. I reckon that was the gamble we tried to take.

Butts was our highest finishing small forward in the BnF last year in 8th position ahead of Rioli (12th), and George (16th), despite having played 2 less games than them. Geezer is important enough to our side to get him back ASAP IMO. I think they just misjudged how risky it would be.

That was last year. This year he was down on a few stats, on the flip side, Rioli has improved stat-wise dramatically and Castagna a little too and then Higgins has provided another important avenue. I just think it's a bit rich to say that Butler has been mismanaged, I don't think they would have made a decision to not operate for the sake of one extra game. Hardwick has shown that he has the confidence to rely on depth to cover and still win games. Butler just didn't respond as well as expected so the decision was then made to operate. And since then he hasn't responded as well as liked either. That's the way it goes with injuries, particular ankle injuries where you're dealing with a complex bone structure.

Fair enough, but I disagree.

Down on goals, tackles, contested possession, efficient disposals, disposal efficiency %, clearances, pressure acts. But even if you consider he's had a similar season, as I said, Rioli has picked it up substantially and Higgins is rotating through the forward line now and doing fine. Butler is not the 'must have do anything to get him back on the ground' player you're portraying. I'd still have him in the side when fit though. Who to drop though in his place?

Up on 1%ters, disposals, marks, uncontested possessions, goal assists, inside 50's, contested marks

Butlers last 2 seasons are as statistically similar as they come, if not better. Don't know who he replaces but if he's fit they'll find a spot.

Yeah except the facts show that they're not better. Plateaued and dropped in certain stats whereas Rioli has leaped well ahead of him. And then there's Higgins.

He's not the gun you're making him out to be. Has been solid but not one you'd take injury risks to get to play an extra game against Collingwood. Subject to injury to another player I can't see atm who we'd drop to get him a game. I think his season may be over.

ha yeah righto.

oh wow the facts show it? Unbelievable. there's that brick wall again.

If he's fit he'd probably take Georges spot, but I don't think we will see him back this year.

The stats you have shown between 2017 and 2018 are all extremely similar. He's slightly up in some stats, and slightly down in others. so I don't have a clue why you're trying to argue it.

I'm arguing it because there are important stats for the pressure forward role that are significantly down which you are ignoring, effective disposals and contested possession and tackles and pressure acts. I agree the most likely spot he would take would be George's spot - actually I wouldn't mind that - but I don't think we'd risk Butler breaking down for the sake of this. So in essence we agree with the outcome, we just disagree with why he will miss out, you think he was mismanaged, I don't.

"Missing with an ankle injury before playing a half in Richmond's VFL clash on September 1, Butler kicked three goals in 15 minutes of match simulation"

Might still be a chance.

He certainly isn't giving up on making the team so you never know

No chance of making the team. Now that we have McIntosh running into space towards the goal square to kick lots of little dribble kick goals - we are covered.
