Welcome to the Tiggers - Daniel Butler

Dan Butler, ankle

“’Buts’ had an ankle syndesmosis sprain, much the same as Kane Lambert. He’d been progressing and building his speed and running about 95 percent, but still with a bit of a limp and still not full power. So last Friday he went in and had the same minor procedure that Kane had this morning, which means he’s going to miss probably the next two games. We’re preparing him for the first final at this stage . . . We’ll get a much better result with this minor surgery. We’ll start him running later this week and build his speed . . .”

A bit worrying that we might be playing 2 x players back from ankle surgery in the 1st week of the finals.

Lucky we have the weeks break beforehand.

Agree. Risky move bring two back at once.

My advice, trade them both

if its the wrong thing to do, tigers wont do it.

Lambert will still have his fitness come finals time, Dan unfortunately hasn't played since the Crows, would need a week or 2 in the VFL

Castagna is one lucky boy. First to go if Dan makes it back. Extremely doubtful word is. Lambert touch and go!

Tigers did wrong by Butler, when he hurt his ankle they jabbed him and put him back on??
What the *smile* ????

Keep thinking back to this. We've been pretty good in this area for ages but clearly Butler shouldn't have gone back on the ground.

On the surface it looks odd but during the game the medicos rely on the players to let them know what's really going on with a niggle. I've not met many players who willing take themselves off if they can't help it.

Do we have a VFL game the week before the finals?

We have a bye this week and then play Frankston the week after. So he'll have one opportunity for a tune-up. Is a half in the VFL enough to back him in for a final? I'd err on the side of caution here.

The last time we did that it backfired, but it was Griff & Conca, guys who have always had patchy form. Dunno really, it all depends on Castagna and his form over the next fortnight.

Agree. I like Butler but I don't think he can go into a final first up in 12 weeks which is what it will be if he doesn't play at all before the first final. He needs 2 weeks in the VFL first I think.

The good thing is the reserves are playing finals so he may get a second game in the VFL and then we have him available only if needed.

Can’t see us going through three finals (touch wood) with the same 22 as we did last year.

Can he play in the VFL first week of their finals - bye weekend for AFL? Not sure if there is a qualifying criteria you need to meet, i.e. played no more than x number of games at AFL level, played x number of games at VFL level?

Reckon he will need to play at least one and be at his usual output to even be considered, if he can't play then not sure the Match Committee would take that risk into a Qualifying Final.

The answer to your question is yes.

I thought a player had to play X amount of VFL games and only a certain amount of AFL to qualify for finals

THought the rule was if he was not selected in the one's that week then he was available for the two's regardless

I’m not Butlers biggest fan, however I know his worth to the 22, however does he come back in for the first final ? I wouldn’t want him to come in for Higgins
