Welcome to the Tiggers - Daniel Butler

Grigga was asked on Talking Tigers today if Butler was quickest at club and he hesitated and said Grimes and George would be up there.
So sounds like he has :

Butler, George and Grimes heading the table.

That leaves, Rioli/Shai/Oleg/Menadue to fight it out for next in line. (Note: Oleg & Connor had better 20 meter sprint times at combine 2.87 & 2.88).

IF, and it is a big if, all these players make the grade surely we would have close to the quickest team in the comp

**It does not seem that long ago that we were lamenting how slow we were.

was thinking the same myself, ridiculously fast squad. have to be the quickest in the comp once these guys galvanise their places in the senior squad. Which other team would compete with us for quickness? GWS>?

It's almost like Wallace's fleet-footed midget blueprint come to fruition.

Team in Rounds 11-14 was our shortest since Rd 7-11 2002. Before that, 1993.

Yep. It also puts the lie to the idea that we could have played this style of game plan successfully last year. We didn't have enough pace (Shai/Stengle), and the pace we did have wasn't ready (George, Butler).

You mean when Beavis said last year he fully expected us to play finals this year that he knew what he was talking about ?

Yes - had the game plan set in stone in his mind as trialled vs the Dogs last year. Then delegated to Leppacella to continue to implement preseason, such was his confidence.

Proved to be right on the "best list ever" statement as well. And the "go backwards to go forwards" soundbite as well.

Crazy like a fox our Dimma. It's only now that some of our slower PRE brethren are starting to realise it.

No wonder it was flagged as COTY at the halfway point of the season.

Spud Frawley on SEN yesterday said that the long standing coach at St. Pat's in Ballarat reckons that Butler is the quickest kid he has ever coached at the school.
Yes Rids, I mentioned that earlier. I remember talking to a St Pat's teacher who was glowing in their praise of Dan the person before he had played a game. Great to see him get an injury free run at it and show he has some tools to become an important member of our team.

after years trying to replace King up forward (trying Newman - Morris etc) BANG we have 5 !!!! Butler, Rioli, Stengle, Catagna, Bolton. The pressure acts these guys have introduced into our game just makes Richmond 2017 a completely (yet enjoyable) team to watch. And they are all under 21 or under! Can even add Edwards to that mix (size/speed/smart)

It also allows the recruiters over the next 2 years to focus on KPP with smalls covered for a few years...although it seems like we will add Naish to the list for 2018 that does not address our KPP/ruck needs

Bevo quoted that at the presser this week.

How is the last comment on this serial "drop to my knees because I hate contact" near 2 weeks ago. Kicks a good running goal now and again but is a serial soft c@ck. Hates contact and continuasly drops easy marks most little blokes snap up.

Our so called pressure act mosquitoe fleet is greatly exaggerated and being picked off by other clubs now.

He doesn't drop marks or fumble because he's soft. He does it because he's already trying to take off before the ball's his. Just needs to take the second to watch the ball into his hands. He'll learn.

He had a Club high 7 tackles today.... IMO he's been the best of our small fwds this yr

With Butler and others so many only see what they want to see and ignore the good things then bang on about the bad things. My opinion is he has come on well this season, has a good kick and not afraid of contact. Not the finished article but tracking well

Butler is coming along very nicely.
One massive area of improvement which should be a focus in the off season is his ability to keeps his hands up and dispose of the ball while being tackled.

It is so obvious that no one could catch him as a kid because his technique when being tackled is horrific.
He is not soft, just has absolutely no idea where his arms should be when feeling physical pressure.

Quite funny watching him turn into a dead fish when he is tackled. He should figure it out though over time though.

7 tackles. 3 goals.

I think he played a good game. Still needs to improve his hands with his marking and handballs under pressure. But he along with Astbury have been the finds of the season.

Quite right but he needs to strengthen that area quickly..
Maybe in the 2's..

Two of his goals were absolute Joe the Gooses. If he was Lennon would be copping it. Cannot remember his third

Looks good when he has got the ball, not so good when he's trying to get the ball. He doesn't go hard enough at the ball at times.
Would like to see Short given a shot at his position.

As I've said before he is a fumbling weak footballer. He does not body the ball and cannot tackle effectively and enough happy to see him dropped
