Welcome to the Tigers Marlion Pickett!

Thought tonight was huge for him. Big game and he was clean, swooping in and out of traffic. Liked it a lot.

Levelling up.

yep.

I gave him votes. a couple of real howlers by foot, but Dusty does them.

did some big things at important moments.

opponents are clearly a bit scared of Marlion,

the black fella with a squeaky voice and his name on his neck, who claps his teammates in a funny way, like his arms are a clapping machine designed by The Goodies.

He does stuff that no-one else can, not sheds, not dusty,

and he does them in important moments.

he is yet another enigma in our side.

Henry, definitely should have tackled imo , pet hate of mine, so much easier to bump and risky nowadays

Yep had to tackle that one. I think though he was good defensively. My main beef was only 5 efficient disposals out of 10. There were a couple of very ordinary kicks in there. But he's made that wing his own. Better suited than in the guts imo.

Agree. He improves his efficiency after he gets the ball and he is ticking all the boxes he needs to. He is a big-game player too. He can mentally pick himself up and lift. Those type of players are gold because they can start an avalanche.

Who did he line up with the shoulder? I thought he was justified. Maybe it wasn't. Good game.

That happened in front of me. Probably should have tackled but the noise of the contact was severe. He hits hard does Marlion.

Also loved when he owned Menegola on the boundary right in front of me too.

Good game. Obviously plays his best footy in the spring

I think I’m undertating his defensive side, I don’t study the game that intensely and not been at the game it’s obviously hard to see hard work off the ball. My concern is those long periods were his not seen , in saying that Im guessing his a lock in the 22 now

Agree, from memory he got the ball back, and we ended up kicking a goal.
I'm a bit conflicted, he definitely should have tackled, but it was an inch or two off being perfect, and I'd be still raving about it.

Tackle. Don't bump. Or if you're going to bump, commit to it and split the opposition player down the middle. No half arsed efforts.
Correct ant

he and kmac on the wings are like guard dogs in a car yard.

with their pace and endurance they defend the wings and don't let the oppo an easy switch or easy possession in the open spaces

if people are looking for stats they won't find them here

dimma would be delighted with marlion
Spot on guys.
These two on the wings play a defence role first. Notice how sides have a terrible time switching and ultimately it is very slow. ..hence opposing scores are so low.
Result is half forwards play high and are used to run and handball out of defence leaving space infront of them for others to run into. This is how we score coast to coast. Is working a treat.
I think it is why Dimma wants Markov....he adds to the rapid delivery.
Neither Pickett nor K Mac need many possessions but need to run hard.
Interesting where this leaves Caddy who is a better player .
Pickett has learnt the wing role used at Richmond and it is his best spot.

I think it all comes down to the team plan. Notice how difficult Geelong found it to clear their backline time and time again. That only happens when your whole team has bought into it. And the wingmen play a big part in that space hogging process. Wing has always been an enigma for me. I've always felt that these guys should be as skilled as possible, creating play etc but may e the Tigers have redefined this position in our role focused setup. When picking a team based on skill Kmac and Pickett aren't the first in the league you'd choose as wingmen. But as role-based players?

Agree.

Got any idea on how many k's Marlion ran, would be up there KMac I reckon?

I think they only show top 5 and at the end of the broadcast I think Graham was top and Lambert 3rd. I rarely see KMac in the top 5. Again though, if the focus is more on space hogging then they may not do as many Ks as a traditional wingman would.

The wings are where we were sliced up by hawthorn & stkilda we've lost 2 games since we cleaned that issue up, Pickett has a lot to do with that

I am a big Marlion fan but he has a few bad habits or quirks probably because of playing so long at a lower level. One is his propensity to bump when he can tackle. Two and this really irks me is that he is a beautiful long kick but when he marks just inside 50, he is confused, looking to play on and invariably is called for playing on and sprays a shot for a behind, easily covering the distance. Cant the coaches just tell him to take a breath if there are no clear options, settle and have a deliberate proper ping at goals!

Rather Marlion on our side then the opposition.

Finals built & born.
Cant wait to see him take it up a notch.

One of the regular top 3 or 4 for the Tigers wanst playing either thats Broad.

Just look at the opposition trying to get some run out of the backline. Our forwards put big defensive pressure on and then they look up the ground and both wings are blocked off by Marlion and KMac. It is a great structure and Marlion is one of the keys.

He is doing a great job.

The physical intensity and threat is just a bloody big bonus.

I think there was a game stat that showed the top 5 speed players of which he was 2nd.

I know there has been commentary on his aparrent lack of it so I was with glee when that stat popped up.
Correct.
He's not slow. His running style is a sort of glide across the ground.
Doesn't look real quick but he can cover ground surprisingly quickly when he turns it on.
