Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

Because its not a fire sale. I'm not sure why you aren't getting this.
If clearly is. They are getting rid of some of their best and most promising players.
When does that happen? Which other team is doing so that does not have similar TPP issues?
Is it just a further coincidence that they have 4-5 players on $1,000,000 contracts?
And a coincidence that they have had trouble retaining their top players throughout their short history?
Wake up girl or man.
It is all about the $$$$.

I've got to be honest Redders, it was only because you've set me straight before:)
It’s ok. It’s been a 12 month process with others.

In all seriousness, Tylar has been a subtle underground development. It started 2 years ago with him. Stay tuned.

Quality footballers right there.

You give up what you have to if you want to acquire both in the same year.
I've been looking at centre square combo's and can't find a weak set-up. This is with Nank, Soldo or whoever is Rucking

Prestia, Taranto, Hopper
Martin, Taranto, Hopper

Martin, Cotchin, Hopper
Prestia, Bolton, Taranto

Prestia, Bolton, Hopper
Taranto, Martin, Cotchin

Martin, Taranto, Graham
Prestia, Martin, Cotchin

Bolton, Taranto, Hopper
Prestia, Bolton, Martin

Which combo do you worry about?

Do you not get that they have a massive imbalance on their list. Way to many strong mids earning very good or some ridiculous coin. They need to rebalance their list, they know it and are acting on it. They are identifying those they will 1 - Get the best return for and 2 - Can cover with the others.

Coniglio is the captain - they won't be trading him
Green is the youngest and a bull - they won't be trading him
Greene is a gun and I bet Kingsley plays him more through the midfield
Kelly / Whitfield were potentially disposable, but in terms of getting draft return, not great as their salaries are too high
Callaghan / Perryman - won't be on much and very highly rated

Which leaves Hopper and Taranto, they won't be on the biggest coin at the Giants (still on good money) but not so much that its a salary dump so they could get both benefits, rebalancing of their list whilst also getting a good return on the trades.

They have way too many midfielders, something you aren't bringing into the debate. You've misread the scenario, its not a salary dump, as a number of us have posted the max "dump" would be $350k-$400k for a single year. Its not a huge movement when you factor in the player coming into replace Hopper.

And you tell me to wake up. Mate you've totally misread the scenario and now swinging at anyone that disagrees with you.

I think this is the key, we've tried the draft thing for our replacements and it hasn't worked. These failed draft picks have pushed us towards needing to trade to keep the premiership window open.
We did make that play for Horne last year because the club knows full well you can't replace Cotchin a pick 2 and Martin a pick 3 with the 8th best mid going at our pick 12 or 13th best mid going at pick 19.

But through trading/free agency you can see which draft picks the last few years can actually play at AFL level rather than attempt guess work year after year after year.

We've brought in Prestia a pick 9, Lynch a pick 11, Taranto's a pick 2, Hopper's a pick 7 because we know they can play they've shown it at this level. Do you even know if Bowes and Bruhn can play at this level? Guess work again!!

Who has ever seen a hand like they now have?
Quite amazing that they again will be able to pick the eyes out of the draft.
And much if this has been carried out at our expense.

We'll be able to pick the eyes out them again in a few years.

Taranto can definitely play. Josh Kelly and Whitfield get the plaudits due to their silk but they are nowhere near as hard at it as Taranto.
Silk is good but when your silks like Kelly goes okay at 36% contested but Whitfield is only at 26% contested possession.
While Richmond silk Edwards is a 45% contested beast and also Bolton is a 45% contested, that's a big big difference between guys with about the same physical builds.
And probably a difference why you aren't a top 8 team year after year even though you have had 20+ first rounders on your list at the one time.
You have no one who has had to fight for a spot on a team or even on a list!!

Oh momentai. I love your enthusiasm but can you please tell me how many premierships GWS has won through this method?

A fire sale is situations like Treloar, Stephenson, Bowes and Brodie, the clubs pushed them out to the highest bidder. GWS wanted to keep these two but they asked to be traded to the clubs of their choice.I am sure GWS would of much rather gone down that path but the trade requests have meant it wasn’t necessary. Do you get it now ??

What nonsense.
Just because some GWS noodle tells you it is just a sad coincidence doesn’t mean you have to believe it.
Do you think Richmond would be clearing a Bolton with one year to go on his contract or a Gibcus just getting started.
No one would dream of it.
GWS are selling because they have mismanaged their list to the extent that they now have to take the course they are taking, not with the blokes we let go, but with the very best they have.

Because some of the other players salaries are in the vicinity of $1million plus. Who would take that salary on?

So they go down the chain.

Have a few other options for midfield and will go to the draft!

Taranto & Hopper on lesser salaries so it makes business sense to move these two on even though the club has voiced it in the media they would love to keep them.

They have stuffed up their TPP and need relief so hence these two players.
