Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

Agree with going for a flag in 23 and/or 24. We have the strike now 100%!!!!
Who knows what will happen in 25 and beyond? What we don know now is that we have a neucleus of players who won us 3 flags and most of those are still there (yea albeit older, but if we beat norf and GC we would have finished top 4 again in 22 and had a good shot at it again). So yes we should try and get both TT and JH. That will put us in prime position for 1-2 more shots at it!
Problem I have is that we already paid 2 x first Rd picks for TT. And now we have to pay another First 31 and a player for JH. Two of the 3 ok but they r pushing us for ALOT!!
When u compare that to what all the other teams are paying we will be paying overs on BOTH, not 1 but both, and to the same club. Why us and why on both trades???? Instead of GWS coming to the party they go the other way and want MORE and MORE!

Why do you think we are overpaying for them? What do you think they are worth in terms of 1 single draft pick?

GWS might as well get pick lolnorf's pick 1 and then get the Hopper deal done!! Bloody frustrating this wait.
Their access to 1st round picks over the course of their short history and 2019 apart, the almost consistent failure to perform, is remarkable.
They have been supported financially as well. The biggest and most disturbing feature of this failure is that they still have no members.

I wonder when and if will we see an independent audit of how this club has been run and why it has failed. (Hopefully such an examination would prove useful to Tasmania).

Their four finals games in 2019

Hopper – 30 disposals, 4 tackles, 4 inside 50’s, 7 clearances, 19 contested, 12 uncontested
25 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles, 2 rebounds, 2 inside 50’s, 5 clearances, 13 contested, 13 uncontested
22 disposals, 3 tackles, 5 rebounds, 5 clearances, 15 contested, 8 uncontested possessions
19 disposals, 1 goal, 2 marks, 9 tackles, 4 inside 50’s, 4 clearances, 8 contested, 11 uncontested

Taranto –
28 disposals, 7 marks, 5 tackles, 1 rebound, 11 inside 50’s, 7 clearances, 11 contested, 18 uncontested
17 disposals, 1 goal, 2 marks, 5 tackles, 3 rebounds, 3 inside 50’s, 2 clearances, 8 contested, 11 uncontested
26 disposals, 1 goal, 5 marks, 6 tackles, 7 rebounds, 5 inside 50’s, 8 clearances, 11 contested, 12 uncontested
30 disposals, 5 marks, 7 tackles, 3 rebounds, 4 inside 50’s, 5 clearances, 15 contested, 18 uncontested

Finals Series Averages -
Hopper – 24 disposals, 2 marks, 0.5 goals, 5 tackles, 2 rebound 50’s, 3 inside 50’s, 5 clearances, 14 contested, 11 uncontested
Taranto – 25 disposals, 4 marks, 0.5 goals, 6 tackles, 4 rebound 50’s, 6 inside 50’s, 6 clearances, 11 contested, 15 uncontested

Hopper went 56% contested possessions, 44% uncontested. He's a BULL!!
Taranto 42% contested, not too bad either.

All I can see is benefits of these two bulls in the team and players like Shai and Keyser Sonsie going another level up again next year with these two blokes alongside them.

I can see these two winning a contested ball and a clearance, Shai (and Dusty is likely to join the party as well) running alongside them and they give it off and they're drilling goals from 50 out!! :mhihi
This.

The same thing happened to Dunkley. He wanted to go to the Essendon. A trade was not done. He is now out of contract. Guess what he has now chosen Brisbane. There is no guarantees that Hopper will choose us again in 12 months time.

Plus you lose face with the player and also any future player we want to trade in.
We will give them what they want
Ralphsmith might be told his future at Richmond has ended.

AFL would be in GWS ear.
To bend us over.
They aren't bending us over.
Pick 12
Pick 19
Pick 30
Future 1st
And Soldo.
That's unbelievable for 2 quality midfielders.
They only reason the media aren't slapping themselves is because they both want to come to us.
Imagine the media if both chose Geelong.

Yeah I don't think they are bending us over either, I think we have been fair both ways. For me Taranto is around a Pick 8 and Hopper a pick 10.

Great post Ricey. Compelling stuff. I'm excited. Anyone dropping the lip about us paying a lot, or more than other clubs are paying for other players, this data speaks volumes. We're paying more because we're getting far superior players.

Quality footballers right there.

You give up what you have to if you want to acquire both in the same year.

How much gnashing of teeth was there when we picked Conca, Lennon and Cellis with decent first round picks?
I think Conca and Cellis were big surprises at the picks they went at. A few posters were happy with the Lennon selection at the time

Draft picks can be overrated.
Then there are those that exceed expectations ie Bolton. Maybe Cumberland, Sonsie.
Draft picks can still be a lottery.

Take the proven talent at a cost commensurate with their value to us.
Are GWS taking advantage of us being “good to trade with”. Probably. Would we be asking the same in return? Probably

Do they put us in the frame to compete with the stronger teams?
Do they adequately strengthen the team? (given we’ve lost Shedda and Edwards, Prestia and Cotch probably limited by age and injury, not like for like but have the contested abilities we sorely lack)

2 kids wouldn’t replace our losses, we need to contest while Cotch, JR, Lynch, Prestia, Dusty etc are still there, but they’ve all had time off the field.
5 picks under pick 30 last year shows we aren’t neglecting the draft. TT and JH also offer some protective big bodies to our next generation of mids.

That’s a lot of contested ball winning
That 15 contested, 8 uncontested game is an elite bull game

Career Dusty goes at 41% contested possessions, Taranto 42%, Cotchin 48% and Hopper goes 48% as well contested.
So you've effectively replaced Trent when he finishes up end of next year for a like for like replacement in Hopper.

Clearances Career - Taranto 4 a game, Martin 4, Hopper 4.67 and Cotch 4.84.
Again Hopper will do contested and clearance wise what Trent does for us.

Tackles - Dusty - 2.90 a game, Cotch 3.79, Hopper - 4.20, Taranto - 5.32.

Reckon the club has waited for RCD, Dow and Martyn for 3-4 years now and said we drafted 2019-2021 and now we need to bring in a couple of other Prestia/Lynch type big hits and not maybe they'll be good!!

Draft picks are most valuable commodity in the world, until they are traded or used. Then they become a mistake.

They're not maybe's man. Taranto doesn't come second in Finals MVP voting in his 3rd year by luck, the boy can play. He was 21 by the way.
We did our guesswork and waiting with RCD, Dow and Martyn, where are they at?
2019-2021 drafts we used 13 draft and rookie selections, so one year in four we are doing some trading when our gunns need replacing and are replaced with gunns from other clubs. Can't see anything wrong with that.
And plus Hopper and Taranto are AFL Seniors bulls, not AFL/VFL inbetweeners, maybe they'll play when 4-6 mids are out injured like some other players going around.

Taranto can definitely play. Josh Kelly and Whitfield get the plaudits due to their silk but they are nowhere near as hard at it as Taranto.

I think this is the key, we've tried the draft thing for our replacements and it hasn't worked. These failed draft picks have pushed us towards needing to trade to keep the premiership window open.

With Shed & Lambert gone and Cotchin having 1 more year in him, our greatest need is midfielders. Therefore i'm happy with the Hopper & Taranto strategy. We have developing talls in Miller, Gibcus, Biggie, Bauer, Ryan, Colina and even Balta is still developing.

Depending on who gets delisted there will still be opportunities to pick up a tall and a ruckman in the draft or the rookie draft. I'd like to see Tylar Young given a chance.

A future 1st and pick 31 are good enough picks to pick up a Bolton. Adding Soldo with nothing coming back. Might not be the farm but it's some pretty high grade studs that could contribute to the future of the farm
You would trade Bolton for a future 1st and pick 31 for Bolton?

Come on BT surely you are taking the *smile*.
