Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

You walk away now and I can almost guarantee he wont be coming next year. Its not that simple. One because it effectively ruins the faith with the player in question.
Disagree. If he wants to come to Richmond he will get there. Although the media may blame us for refusing to meet what some consider to be an unreasonable ask, there is no reason why he should follow the herd.

Hmmm. Dunno. Unless we paid considerable overs for Taranto and it’s adjusted for with Hopper, then not sure that makes sense.

If Taranto = 13 + 20, then not sure how 15 (conceivable 2023 estimate) + 30 (generously estimated Soldo value) gets you Hopper.

Unless of course you see us bombing next year ?
Or you think Hopper's not as good as Taranto, and Soldo's better than Preuss (traded for pick 31). (If they don't think Soldo's better than Preuss, why would they want him?)

Given that, there's really not much difference between 13+20 and 15+30, especially when the 15 is said to be in a stronger draft.

If GWizz continue to play silly buggers then I reckon the tigers change track - let’s play the high risk game and go for Bowes and pick 7 instead of Hopper.

If we smooth his wage over 3 or 4 years and we back in Hardwick and Lambert to turn his career around, we may end up with a half decent big bodied mid plus we gain a top 10 KPF from this years draft. Sounds like a win:win to me.

Then we let Hopper walk to us next year for nothing, could be a win, win, win and GWizz end up with a compensation pick, most likely end of first round and we let our first round pick from next year loose against the giants and watch him tear them apart.

Completely agree. This is in GWS' court. We paid fairly for Taranto. If they want to dig in on Hopper they are welcome to but we need to walk away. They have form on this too after last year when they blocked the Bobby Hill trade. Won't reflect well on them knowing Hill has moved this year and Hopper will walk as a FA next year anyway.

I don't mind the idea of going down the Bowes path either. Get pick 7 (grab a KPF like Cadman or Jefferson or a mid like Clark) plus Bowes who I think is some chance of being resurrected.

Last time we did it, we won a premiership.
Last time my sense was that the player in question wanted out because he thought his better chance of winning a premiership medal lay with a move to GWS.
Soldo is clearly very popular at Punt road and at 27, with strong family ties here, I doubt very much if he wants to go.

I suspect/hope we have a mature backup ruckman in mind to bring in via the draft. To be honest and in my view Soldo is a better Ruckman then Nankervis and should have played more games in 2022.
A bit hard when Soldo had a few knee complications/clean-ups this year, didn't really get a clean run at it, should be better next year.

I don't think we're walking away. It's not just Hopper we've committed to - you don't reckon we told Cotch and Jack we were getting both these blokes when they agreed to re-sign for peanuts?

Both clubs need to get this done, and will.

And 15 may turn out to be 5. Oops.

There’s not that big a difference between Taranto and Hopper to warrant that sort of gap, if there’s a value difference at all. Have been hearing for weeks from various people that Hopper is the guy we most need because of his higher clearance capacity.

The other significant consideration is GW$ supposedly need to salary dump. Now unless that situation has changed, they don't hold the whip hand here.
Gws have not been as overt as Collingwood in signalling a salary dump. They have not pushed Hopper out in the way Collingwood pushed Grundy.

Gws want to re set their contracts but have not come out and said they want to get rid of Hopper. They have the whip hand here imo. Hopper only has one more year not 5 like Grundy.

If we give up F1, pick 30, Soldo and Soldo’s wages, I’m sure most Richmond fans would be extremely disappointed. If Hopper loses faith/trust in RFC because his current club is asking for too much, then so be it. We will move on and hopper will also, albeit after next season.
I think Richmond supporters would be more disappointed in missing a player who could prove effective in getting us another flag instead of worrying about missing a kid who might not even have any impact on the club at all.

And why would we pay Soldo's wages?

We will get it done, we need to be very competitive in the centre around the ground. Get this right, we will have a very strong side next year, then we look to new forwards, backs, etc in the upcoming years. We have a two to three years window opportunity to win flags.

Absolutely we are not walking away from this. The deal will get done. We have the chance of winning another flag next year off the back of this trade period.

110% it’ll get done. But maybe not at the price some PRE’enders are expecting…..

Reality is Hopper was always going to be the difficult one due to being contracted. While i dont agree giving up a first rounder, Hopper is actually the one we need more than Tarranto. Hopper coming in will allow a player like Taranto the opportunity to win a brownlow.
We need to get it done now and im more than happy for Soldo to move the other way. Could easily pluck a mature age that would have the same if noylt better impact than Soldo this year
