Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

He should never have been made captain for precisely this issue. It makes a pretty average / replaceable player undroppable. Having said that agree with Leysy, if they want Soldo they can grab him.
He finished in the top 10 of the B&F. Far from droppable.

Soldo and a second round pick is fair.
But if they insist on our future 1st round pick and Soldo then we should refuse.
No deal.

If its Soldo that goes with F1 and potentially 31 then I expect several picks to be coming back our way.

You would give up Soldo, 31 and our future 1st and expect a couple back.
The next available is late 50’s.
This is a salary dump and you are giving away the farm.

Who knows what picks they are.

If it was a F1, Soldo and 31, for say their F2 and 59 and 61 then yeah I would definitely be considering it.

it all depends on the overall deal.

I like Soldo, but have no problems losing him if that’s what it takes to get this done. We preferred a clearly hampered Nank to Soldo in the latter part of this season.

It’s worth remembering that though it has been called a ‘salary dump’ the deal is very different to Grundy or Bowes - both those players have multiple years on huge contracts that their clubs can’t realistically pay. Hopper only has one year on his contract and it’s probably at a value they could just about pay if they switched around a few other contracts. Wouldn’t be GWS’ preferred position, but probably not impossible.

Having said that, expecting more on top of a F1 and a mid-second round pick for a player who’s a free agent in a year is pretty greedy and I hope we stand firm - Hopper and his management would see that we have made a pretty generous offer and if it didn’t go through I‘m not sure it would be held against us.

Hmm, not in favour of losing Soldo. I'm not convinced Nank has many years left, he is a battering ram and they don't last. Soldo should be better with more time since the knee injury.

But I suppose we always have Mate Collina . . . ok, I'll shut the door on the way out. But seriously, what little I have seen of Collina he doesn't seem to move much, how the hell did he ever play basketball?

As sure as night follows day, Richmond offer more than most clubs for a player we want. It's frustrating but I suppose the big picture is we typically get said player with minimum fuss and stress. I think the reputation as being good to negotiate with, actually does us no favours.

Exactly. This is not a Grundy or bowes salary dump.
If hopper stayed and then we picked him up as a free agent next year then GWS would likely get a first round compensation based on their ladder position, say 5-8.
Our 1st rounder next year is likely to be 15 + and they know it. Pick 31 might be the difference between those two picks , probably not.
Let me put it this way. If we were offered a late teens pick next year and pick 31 for Daniel Rioli or Liam Baker would we take it?
I wouldn’t

I think Angus Graham was more coordinated than Collina. What he is doing on an AFL list even as a sump is beyond me. I understand the ahtletic freak types that slowly learn the game as they could be become something with training. This bloke moves like a 95 year old and has absolutely zero footballing iq.

But he has been playing injured and for most of last year didn’t have the agility needed to do well.
Soldo becomes more valuable to us because of this.

He has value on the open market and his former coach wants him.
If McCartney really wants him as well as our future 1st, for Hopper, with us accepting all of Hoppers salary plus some of Soldo’s, maybe we should wait for next year and get him as a free agent.
