Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

you compare that to us where our list profile is in magnificent shape. 6 players made their finals debut this year. If you add Hopper and Taranto, about a third of our best 22 is in that 24-27 peak age bracket. The other third is 150+ games experience and multiple premierships.

For a team that just won 3 flags, we are in a crazy good position.

It's been set up well with the spread of retirements in Astbury and Bach last year, Caddy, Lambert and Shed this season and presumably Cotch and Jack at the end of '23. With Hopper and Taranto coming in (allowing them 12 months transition with Cotch) and Shai, Graham, Sonsie and Ross.

It's been done well now we need it to show on the field a bit more.

152 games. B&F winner. 2x All Australian with Gi-aints.
As i said, "washed up". he was 28 when he landed in Sydney (the age Adams is now), but yes he did continue playing good football til his mid-30s.
Still a good trade for the Pies. I guess in fairness to the Giants they had to take what they could get for another 20yo who wanted to leave.

The media and all footy personalities are so quick to jump on us and others for apparently raiding gws players. When will the spotlight turn the other way?

They have been so overpaid for every player that ever wanted out, but they have never done anything with those picks.

Dylan shiel for a 2 top 15 picks.
Top 15 pick for zac Williams
Pick 6 for Tom boyd
2nd rounder for Adam Tomlinson
Pick 25 for Matt Kennedy
Will Settlefield pick 43 and future Carlton 2nd rounder
Jack Steele for a 2nd rounder
Heath Shaw for Taylor adams
Rory Lobb for pick 11 and 19
Devon smith for pick 11
Adam treloar for 2 top 10 picks

Every trade GWS has ever made, they should have won on paper. They have been over compensated for any player to ever leave there. There is something wrong with the foundations of that club to not have been able to take advantage how rewarded they have been for the players wanting out.

They can ask what they want for hopper and Taranto, but we can’t give overs like other clubs have and we have the upper hand with them wanting to come to us.
I reckon those deals are thereabouts. Some look good for GWS in hindsight, particularly Sheil and Treloar, but at the time that is what it took, we would have paid the same for Treloar and PRE would have been stoked. Love the Bomber duo, they got gloriously dudded, but again I would have done that deal for Smith at the time. The Sheil one looked overs at the time, but not the crazy overs that its turned out as.

I think in general people are overvaluing draft picks. You have to look at the pick that was given up and consider what are the odds of drafting a player of that quality with that pick.

Yep add Taranto and Hopper to the 6 finals debutants and add a few more emerging then we have rejuvenated half our starting line up in 1 year.

Maybe not washed up as much as medium level tenure left - the output of which was very good. Washed up is a pretty severe term.

Nobody wants to live in Liverpool, Sydney. Hardest city in Australia to get around in.
Have You seen the traffic on punt Rd,/Hoddle at its horrendous but I agree
Melbourne is a better place period.
Hopper was Keen to come to us as we are a massive club & we play 13-15 games at the G.
It's not hard to sell that. Plus playing alongside Flappers & Dusty makes the decision so much easier.

Liverpool ? GWS play/train/live in the Olympic Park and Breakfast Point areas. Concord, Ryde etc. All pretty close to each other.

Liverpool is like a 40 minute drive away. Nowhere near it.

Sorry I'm not across their facilities like you are. Still a terrible city to get around in.

GWS didn't last long out at Blacktown did they, couldn't get out of there quick enough. I wonder how much money the AFL wasted on training facilities etc out there?

Well, Blacktown is nowhere near Liverpool either (maybe 40 mins drive) but Blacktown was just temporary as they set up in Breakfast Point and the Olympic Park area.

Wills Park where they train now used to be a popular driving range. A lot of locals weren’t happy when they converted it for the Giants.

A lot of players still live at Breakfast Point. A lot of them are members at Concord GC which isn’t a bad track.

Most of them live in Balmain which is 20-30mins away from Olympic Park on a good day.

Was it, ok, I didn’t know that.

I remember reading an article years ago that said Blacktown people felt that GWS deserted them.

Yeah, me doubling down on "washed up" was me doing a Steve Silvagni and refusing to admit i got it wrong the 1st time.
Shaw for Adams was a win-win trade, especially considering the issue the Giants have attracting decent players.

That's unbelievable
It will be funny if the Fitzroy fans out number them
I reckon they struggle to play well against sides with huge supporter bases.
Port slapped them twice in finals at sell outs at Adelaide, the Crows did the same in 2017.
Collingwood always go ok against then.
Sydney beats them at the SCG
And you know we just slap them every time.
I think this decision of players begging people to turn up has come from Hocking and Scott, thats due to the Collingwood game they really struggled to get on top, if Collingwood had lynch or Kennedy they wouldve won. Selwood is the 2st to fall apart.
