Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

We (RFC) must or at the very least should have been aware of his injuries before he was signed to a seven contract. It may still go well but all in all it was a pretty ordinary decision.
Agree but everyone on here was aware of the injuries so thinking RFC were.

pretty sure the club knew what was going on with Hopper...
It's called 'due diligence' and large businesses tend to use it

maybe best to leave the past where it is and focus on how good Hopper will be in future days

Not so quick. If we were aware that he had a long term injury which was expected to continue to be a problem, then the decision to take him for a future 1st rounder no less, was even more of a dog than we were led to believe.

Artball didn't say anything about Hopper having a long term injury.

Prestia only played 22 games in his last two years with the Suns, and Lynch only played 10 games in his last season with them.
Sure they have had injuries with us, but Prestia has played 117 games and played in 3 premierships, and Tom has played in two premierships and has played 85 games.
I've got every confidence in the due diligence the club did in bringing Hopper to the club, just like they did with Prestia and Lynch.

Art ball referred to club knowing what the as going on with Hopper.
If they did and anticipated his ongoing problems into last season they took a huge and unwarranted risk.

Lynch and Prestia entirely different.
They came to us and immediately began successful playing careers with us.

Now both facing problems but they are also much older and much closer to the end than we had a right to believe was the case for Hopper. (Tram causing havoc here)!

That's not really correct. Lynch and Prestia were both recovering from previous years injuries in their first year. Prestia barely had a pre season, received a lot of criticism early in the season, and starred late in the season and in the finals.

Lynch also had virtually no pre season but did a fantastic job holding the team together during the home and away rounds despite struggling a lack of prep.

Despite concerns after an interrupted first year it's too early yet to pass judgement on the Hopper trade either way.
This year will make things clearer..

A few aches and pains, but not as serious as that carried over by Hopper.
Over the years they were both fantastic for us and instrumental for our successes on the ground, with little bother for either until last season.

Hopper well lets hope he is over his problems and has a breakout year. Five more of the same to follow. Five!

you've perhaps taken my comment as mildly negative .. which it isn't ...

the club looks into all sorts of aspects of a potential player .. injury history included
but also his character, is he a good fit, adaptable or not, etc etc ..

part of my thinking about Hopper is smart future-proofing by the club - same with Taranto - give them long deals..
Cotch is gone, Dion is older/gets niggles, Dusty...?
and the likes of Dow and Sonsie and others are young and learning ...

thanks for the backup tigerman

All sweet Artball. But taking on a player with an injury which is known to be severe and may be chronic, is a very dangerous course. Giving such a player 7 years is something else again.

If we had won the Premiership last year, would you be calling it a masterstroke?
Your’e obviously giving the club, Prestia and Lynch a leave pass because they came at the right time with existing injury histories.
Your argument is flawed and team results based.

*BTW Lynch came with a PCL injury that is very tricky to manage and somewhat chronic .

That is nonsense. They had injuries in their last years at GC. They came at different times and contributed to enormously successful campaigns.

Hopper came and broke down almost immediately with a related injury and is with us for another 6 years.

You are bashing Hopper’s selection on the basis of lack of team success. Because he played enough good football in a struggling team to not be a focus.
it’s obvious you would have blamed the club for recruiting the other two if we didn’t achieve success. But we did so now you’re looking for people to blame when things don’t go our way.
Think the club know a little more than all of us, so I’ll let this major fkup slide

What makes you think I was against the recruitment of Prestia and Lynch.
Look back at my posts and you will see quite the opposite.

And not against Hopper, but Clarke must have had some inkling of the nature of his injury and yet got carried away and still decided to take the risk of offering a SEVEN year contract.
Like the rest of us hoping for the best.

Clarke doesn't offer contracts. He's head of recruiting. Blair Hartley is who you're probably thinking of.

If you didn’t know that it does put some doubt on a lot of your comments as that is very common knowledge yet you seem to speak with authority on so many things ??
