Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

Certainly looks a lot fitter.

Gunna be interesting how our midfield takes shape.

We have four guys who all play there best foorball as midfielders (not even wingers). Taranta, Hopper, Dow, Meatball. Then add Dusty who is playing predominantly mid and Shai who will be needed at times to provide some badly needed pace.

Apart from Dusty and Taranta who can rest forward the others will be rotating bench/mid.

Interesting to see how the coaching staff 1) fit them in and 2) rotate them.
Its much needed midfield depth Leysy.

I wouldnt be counting on Prestia being there week in week out.

Apart from Shai revolving through it, where’s that 5m-10m speed to spread from stoppages going to come from with our on ballers ?

Graham and Bakes too. Ross and Sonsie and Mcauliffe pushing for minutes.

But lets not forget we had Dusty Cotch Meatball Shedda with Lamboghini and Jack G.
Batting 6 full timers is useful.

Yeah, is a big concern.

Dow at least has an excellent step to create space over the first 5m.

No doubt why Yze is floating Rioli spending some time up there.

One reason why Smith coming on would be a dream. Allow Shorty and the Prince to get onbaĺl.

Only Chimp and Meatball couldn't rotate through other roles. And back then they could run and run.

Leysy's point wasn't so much numbers, we have that, more that we have a number of mids Hopper, Dow, Meatball who can't play anywhere else.

Add Dusty, Taranto, Shai to your suggestions and the squeeze will be on. A good thing.

Reckon Taranto might end up playing more forward if everyone stays fit.

We do look one paced when Shai isn't there. But Dusty going in and Dow with his side step should make it more effective than it became last year.

Another factor might be Naismith. Not much love for him so far but if he continues with the form he displayed on Sunday, surely he must be picked.
He would be playing as back up but our mids actually having some confidence as to where the ball is about to be hit, would make a hell of a difference.

Forgetting Bakes?

We saw on Sunday how dynamic Kosi Pickett was.
He lights up the middle.
Its why i think we need Shai and DRio in the permanent rotations

Absolutely. It's all about breakaway speed at centre clearance. First use for forwards with 6-6-6 rule.
Pickett and Viney racked up clearance after clearance on the weekend.
We looked all at sea against Melbourne until Shai went in there.
Think Shai spent more time in there than Yze was forecasting too, because he was winning the ball so much.

Teams are going nuclear in the guts, the Saints nabbed Liam Henry from Freo and are even turning him into a full time midfielder. Taranto and Hopper would be left in his dust.
Massive conundrum for Yze.
It was obvious from round one last year when Tarranto, Hopper and Prestia got made to look silly by a faster blues midfield.

Hopefully history doesn't repeat, two of Dow, Shai and Dusty need to be at every centre bounce.
It was my view last year and remains this year, we can't play all of Taranto, Hopper and Prestia in the same team. Especially as Prestia and Hopper are of little value resting forward.

Prestia cancels himself out. He is always injured.
You blame the leg speed, but Gawn was handing them the ball on a silver platter when he was going up against Sampson.
Sampson isn't a ruckman.
Yes your 100% right, speed is required but strength to win is also very important.
When Naismith went into the ruck things evened out and we were able to get our hands on the ball.

We had a list of speedsters
We are left with Bolton & senior Rioli and no one else
Graham forget about it.
Baker isn't a natural mid
Tarranto jogs
Hopper crawls
Ross and Dow are more like Nissan's then Ferrari's
Pickett and Flappers are cruiser's
Junior Rioli can't grab a dry Sherrin without fumbling it.

*it was a shame that Hardwick was sooo desperate on ball midfielders because Prestia kept on getting injured,
We couldve ended up with Tarranto and Bobby Hill for a 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder.
I love the Hop but we have a team sheet full of Hoppers.
What I saw on sundey didn't impress me.
Can u chase if your always on the ground?

If you don't have the speed, you need to get the ball first.

On that basis I think Naismith has got to play as a priority. He was fantastic against the benchmark of the competition. A real ruckman.
Nank might be the problem.

We can always throw Lefau 195cm 95kg in at centre bounce he’d keep them honest

I would never describe Nank as a problem. His forte isn't center bounce as he can't jump, but his work around the ground is terrific.

He's one of our best players around stoppage.

Maybe we have Naismith at CB if we need hands on the pill first, but let's not underestimate Nank's value.

Yep and even immediately after the centre bounce he becomes another midfielder, following up with tackling etc.

Blair Hartley is List Manager.
He has a detailed profile on every single player in the AFL.
He identifies talent, identifies holes in our list and negotiates with player managers.
He needs his football department superiors to sign off but he’s on par with Tim Livingston in seniority, so directly under Brendan Gale.
Clarke is involved in junior recruitment. He leads a small team of draft watchers. He does not recruit outside of the draft. His job is to rate all junior players in order and turns up to draft night with the hand he is given. The football department and coaches will have an input into the type of players they value.
Nailed it ,surprise surprise to some.
