Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

If you didn’t know that it does put some doubt on a lot of your comments as that is very common knowledge yet you seem to speak with authority on so many things ??
I'm guessing that was being addressed to Momentai?

When Richmond trade in A Grade players from other clubs, as distinct from drafting through a draft selection, I reckon that Clarke and his team plus Hartley and Gale and sometimes even the Board (think Ben Cousins), would be part of the process. Think about TPP allocation...and of course doubt whenever you see fit.

I'd like to see a new thread, pinned at the top called -

Take It Somewhere Else! where discussions on the merits of recruiting a player, known injuries, known personal issues, length of contract etc can be debated. There will always be differing views on whether a player should or shouldn't be recruited (or traded).

I'm more interested (especially at this time of year) in how Hopper is tracking and what his role will look like in Ooz's game plan

Agreed.
I’d also like to see a thread called I don’t know the facts but I’ll debate it incessantly anyway

Blair Hartley is List Manager.
He has a detailed profile on every single player in the AFL.
He identifies talent, identifies holes in our list and negotiates with player managers.
He needs his football department superiors to sign off but he’s on par with Tim Livingston in seniority, so directly under Brendan Gale.
Clarke is involved in junior recruitment. He leads a small team of draft watchers. He does not recruit outside of the draft. His job is to rate all junior players in order and turns up to draft night with the hand he is given. The football department and coaches will have an input into the type of players they value.

'I reckon', is not me being assertive and according to you I have got it pretty much right. Every one has a bit to say on players traded in.
Agreed.

'Don't Argue'. Is that a message to yourself, or to every one else.

Yes, you got it correct except for the bit about blaming Clarke for Hopper’s recruitment.
He has no say in it

I cannot see the sense in bagging the club for Hopper based on results for one year of a seven year deal.

Granted Hopper had an average year and granted one could rate it a failure based on what we gave up to get him and then giving him a long contract.

Hopper was OK in 2023. Preseason reports all positive. So looking for him to stay injury free and to get his disposal average up over 25 and with him kicking goals. His best return over a year has been 10. Hope he exceeds that maybe even double would be a bonus

All of us hope he has a cracker!

Thought he was fantastic - inside and out, strong and sharp, all day. Big improver on 2023

Adding an A grade mid version of Hopper versus the 2023 model, could change everything.

Hopper represents our easiest pathway to an A grade mid that isn’t on the list right now.
This happening has shortened up considerably after yesterday.

Thought he started the game really well. Faded out a bit but there were definitely positive signs.
He does seem to be moving better over the ground. Looks lighter than last year or not labouring as much at least.
Big positive from the weekend but I'm still a bit nervous how his body will hold up.

Certainly looks a lot fitter.

Gunna be interesting how our midfield takes shape.

We have four guys who all play there best foorball as midfielders (not even wingers). Taranta, Hopper, Dow, Meatball. Then add Dusty who is playing predominantly mid and Shai who will be needed at times to provide some badly needed pace.

Apart from Dusty and Taranta who can rest forward the others will be rotating bench/mid.

Interesting to see how the coaching staff 1) fit them in and 2) rotate them.
