Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

Looked over Hopper's stats on the weekend. Confirmed what the eye saw:

He had a total of 87 metres gained for the match. That is 21st for us. Only ahead of Coulthard (57 in one qtr) and Grimes. From 23 possessions. Yuck.

Also only 3 score involvements and 14 pressure acts. He is well off nearly all our midfielders for both those across the season as well. Even Dusty has more pressure acts.

The high octane opponent/game and end to end footy found him out. Red flags.

We need him to go from an East West player to North South i.e. forward not sideways.

He needs to get mega fit and have a full Richmond way re-programming over the summer. Actually not just a Richmond way, but the way all good midfielders now play. Direct.

Will be honest, with his lack of a step, and average athleticism/pace meaning poor two way running and inability to break a line, am concerned he may only end up a role player.

Fingers crossed it can be done given the contract/trade.

Big off-season coming up. And big watch.

Before his injury I thought he was tracking well.

Since his return, so so. Sunday poor, agree Leysy.

2023-2024. The pre-aeason of his life.

I am sure he has had enough of 2023 , like me

Richo made a good point on Talking Tigers last night… Hopper just hasn’t been able to get continuity this season. Played the first 2, missed round 3, played rounds 4-8 then injured again round 9. Back rounds 16-20 then concussed round 21. I have no doubt his best footy for us is ahead of him. Hopefully has a big pre season then gets some continuity next season!

Chimp straight into the midfield in place of Hopper this week, will give us a nice uplift in there.

Not sure on pressure acts, but Hopper is about equal with Prestia on score involvements and metres gained per game.- while having been subbed out twice. He averages more goals per game, and about equal for disposals.

He's a worry, is Dennis, no doubt.
Yes, continuity has suffered.

What I noticed at a few of the games, unfortunately he goes into Ty Vickery mode (sorry to say).
You know how Ty used to go missing for 60 minutes or so.
You'd think he must be off the ground, and then you'd find him and say, no, there he is.

Huge contract.
I am sure Kingsley ain't missing him.
Quentin he is missing.
Dennis, not so much.
Hope I am wrong.

Benefit of doubt due to lack of continuous footy.
Needs a big 2024.

Bugger it give sonz a go. Or even Dow with a last chance/dance. If that fails during the game Ross comes in to the rotation and Pickett back on his wing.

Hopper 13 pressure acts to Meatball 20.

This is one of Leysy's concerns. His lack of pace and agility means if he doesn't win the ball he's not impacting play.

Whilst he didn't play a lot on the weekend, he was in the middle when we got blitzed enough that the game was over before he went off.

It wasn't all on him of course, but it is a common trend.

Concerning for a guy on his money/contract/trade.

As mentioned before a monster pre-season needed, but still worried that won't be enough.

I was thinking the same today LD.
Reminscent of Caddy.
Wonder if we will need to reposition him

Bit of negativity around Hopper on here and what he offers etc. At GWS he finished top 5 in the BNF 3 years in a row (2019, 2020, 2021). They had a very talented list during that time, (as we all know, meeting them in the 2019 GF), so his performances stood up with the best of them. I think we all need to take a breath and give him time. Dion didn’t set the world on fire in his first season with us, in fact his stats in 2017 are almost identical to what Hopper has produced this year. Patience people. He will come good!

Snap!

Thought he might still be a bit concussed early, but finished strong.
His second halves are generally better than his first, since he came back from injury.
Is that because the speed of the game is down?
