Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

It’s a miracle we’re even still talking about finals given the season we’ve had. Poor pre season, injuries, coach on the way out, flat as a snake’s *smile* for the first two months, coach leaves.

Hopper and Taranto have been important and they will be good players for us going forwards.

Tigers need an LDU type.

I thought Hopper was one of those.

Has been fairly inconspicuous this year, compared to Tim who has carried the side in his first season ala Tom Lynch 2019.

Need more from him for what he cost.

Hopper only 70% game time. Playing not quite right? First time in 6 games he's had more than 9 contested possessions.

Think he'll be ok but not quite as good as hoped. He'll be even more critical though with Cotchin to retire and Prestia near the end.

We could easily be looking at giving up pick 5 or 6 for this bloke comes years end to a team that might finish 7 or 8 spots above us

They must be giggling

Been holding out on posting this, but he is the elephant in the room.

Doesn't have the "step" the top midfielders have.

Is slow in transition both offensively and defensively. You'll notice when the ball was pinging end to end in the first half he was invisible. Because he couldn't keep up.

A decent kick, but he doesn't fit into our gamestyle.

How many times does he positively impact a scoring chain i.e. a tap on, forward handball, break a line then deliver by foot. Like Chimp (did), Taranto, Dusty, Bolton etc do?

For his money. draft picks and contract length he needs to be impacting matches more than he does.

Was concerned when hwe got him how he would fit into our style. Those concerns are magnified.

Myself and a couple of others raised his slowness to transition in the practice game v North at the start of the year. A few familiar cheersquadders went ballistic (as usual), but the fact is that he is not a great runner.

He’ll bring other attributes and he should be better next year hopefully if he stays healthy, so no need to panic. But you’re right, he’s not great on the move.

Needs to lift big time. ATM not near the level he was at the Giants.

That's the thing. He is actually playing at the level (Stats wise) he was at the Giants. Uncannily similar.

Hope am wrong, but history says this is his level.

If you're right then I tend to think TBR was right in questioning how we can win a flag with Dennis as a first mid rotation.

Not sold on him at all. Dont see a midfield bull, doesnt have any x factor, not really a massive accumulator, just an ok goal kicker, and not super polished. Was actually surprised to see him at 1.87m, he looks extremely small in tge guts.

Bit of a plodder based on the eye test. Hope Im wrong and has a much higher ceiling than what his output has been this year, however the price has not justified the performance . . . without question

A big, tall, contested bull of a midfielder with a nice kicking action who gets a high number of disposals is exactly the type of midfielder we never had while winning premierships, and it's exactly the type of midfielder I saw posters saying we needed.

Height is the #1 overrated trait that we should exploit, not pursue. Size is overrated. Beautiful kicking is overrated. Disposal quantity is overrated. A good baulk is overrated. Hopper ticks all the boxes of an anti-moneyball player. He can still be a good player for us, and I think he will, but his natural advantages are simply different to the modern game's optimal traits (especially for a midfielder).

Edit: His good character is very Richmond-like, so he's likely to be a good teammate in the long run

He's ok but the cost was our first round draft pick this year & our second rounder last year (31).
On top of a seven year deal it's not weighing up atm that's for sure.
