Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

He was coming back off a bad knee injury this year. Did a calf and missed games let’s see what a full preseason does for him.

Definitely paid overs for him when all things are considered. Having said that he can play much better than what we've seen so far and he and taranto will be vital for us during our rebuild providing support and leadership to the kids.

Yeh, but he has a history of missing games. Has played 130 games in 8 seasons. So missed around 50 odd games?

Is it luck, management or application to recovery?

Whatever it is, the odds are we will not see the best of Hopper on a consistent basis. His best is worth a spot starting in the middle. But if he's not 100% he's a liability.

Goes to ground far too easily and is therefore out of the contest.

His best game, and only game where he performed to expectations was against Adelaide early in the season. For whatever reason he could not produce such a performance again all season. Will be interesting to see what, if any surgery he has over the off season.

its all about him getting his body right

Biggest issue with Hopper is that it didn't work with Taranto as midfielders at GWS

So not sure how it can work at Richmond

I think he is a good kick, nice and tough, but just a tad slow to be a modern midfielder, and that really can't be improved

It is a worry, no doubt about that, especially for what he cost, Dow may be just as effective, and cost stuff all

He’s been disappointing no doubt. And slow. But he does have some tricks….could he be a Josh Caddy forward type?

He played 23 games in 21, 17out of 18 in 20, 23 in 19 and 21 in 18.

He missed a lot in his 1st 2 - not sure whether injured or reserves- then missed about 8 games in 4 years, before missing a lot again the last 2.
Hopefully we get back to the 2018-2021 version, who showed he could win the ball, tackle and kick the occasional goal.

Know a broken record with Hopper, but he just doesn't influence games.

Just 4 kicks, 4 contested possessions, 3 score involvements.

And without the ball, just as ineffective - 10 pressure acts and 2 tackles.

And here's the kicker, has attended 35 centre clearances the past two weeks, and was won ONE of them. Butters schooled him when they went H2H yesterday.

If you're picking a team next week, on form Dow is 100% selected ahead of him.

And when you consider his limitations, and comparative contracts that is alarming.

Massive off-season and year coming up for him in 2024. Otherwise, it's gunna be a long way until 2029...

Agree mate

We need this guy to have Hewitt, Cerra impact on the team, like they did on the blues

Instead we are getting less than a dow impact , and that is concerning

We need him to improve a heap, hope he can, but I have my doubts

Defensively he is very ordinary. I’m massively concerned about this deal tbh.
What exact role was he recruited to play? I would have thought curbing the influence of blokes like Petracca, Bont, Cripps at stoppages would have been on the agenda, as well as hurting the oppo the other way. We have big trouble with top midfielders, especially at centre clearances.

I am willing to give Hopper another 12 months before chopping him at the knees.

But this shapes as the most important off season of his career. If he cant get continuity then we will have seen no improvement in the next 12 months.

Agree - showed glimpses as to what he could be which is a skilled big bodied midfielder. We’ve invested another 6 years in him - has to have a great pre-season and be the player we recruited.

It is clear he is nowhere near his best football at the moment, and not for most of this year.
If his injury worries of the last 2 years are behind him, i reckon it is reasonable to hope for a return of the footballer who had 50 disposals and 16 tackles in his 2 finals in 2021. and who had numerous 10+ clearance games that year.
And what is the off season if not for hope!

Agree. Given that he changed clubs and state, I'll give him and Taz 12 months to prove. Also, new coach change.
