Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

We've paid a significant premium for him and he's hasn't come anywhere near justifying his price.
Ohh no we burnt another 2 picks?
Call the police
Where's the 5 in 30.
We should barr ourselves from any drafts.
Hopper is quality

I thought he had all the surgeries while he was at GWS last year? I know he didn't attend all training sessions during this pre season given his recent injury problems prior.
He still had knee issues
Not bad considering Geelong Collingwood and Sydney were keen too.

Sometimes the rubbish knocking players on this forum beggars belief. Hopper need a season to settle in, like Prestia and others. I have faith in those at the club to make the right choices. We’ve been spoilt. Keyboard heroes always good for a laugh, probably never played a game of footy outside a TV set in their lives.

Hopper not the issue. Its the ageing legs of Cotchin, Prestia, Martin and the concrete boots of Graham that aren't providing enough cover. Without Hopper and Taranto this year we would be bottom 3. If we could add another 2 mids with some fresh legs i reckon he will get better

Don't think you can put Taranto and Hopper in the same bracket.

One is a pressure beast - Taranto. 31 pressure acts yesterday. Easily the most in the match.

Hopper aint. He can't apply pressure any better than those you mentioned. 14 pressure acts for the match. Less than Meatball, Graham, Dusty and the same as Chimp.

Even though they are veterans with many miles on the clock (Graham excepted) on season average he is below all those guys. That is because of below average agility and pace.

And why he is a different category to Taranto. Alongside (or below) all the guys you mentioned.

He will need to get mega fit in the off-season to overcome his athletic limitations to change that ILO.

He's ok but the cost was our first round draft pick this year & our second rounder last year (31).
On top of a seven year deal it's not weighing up atm that's for sure.

As with my argument around Taranto, getting a youngish quality mid for 7 years makes the deal more worthwhile, not less. If it works out you have six years of high draft picks where you can pick other quality players without worrying about filling that specific midfield role that balance out against the initial high picks you spent.

Of course, if it doesn't work out then you've lost the picks, you have a mediocre player you retire or trade out and then need to replace.

Hopper has been more than serviceable but lacks to eye catching ability that Taranto has. That said, is you should watch him in a game where he does a lot of unrewarding stuff that makes him valuable.

I thought Hopper was mediocre. Probably a bit lame and looked very plain with the ball. Overall he looked at sea at the level. He can do a lot better than that.

12 Ground Ball Gets surprised me. Checking...

Clearly struggling with the knee. I'd be curious to know how much work he does during the week. Reckon it's bugger all.

He hasn't been awful but in year one, he hasn't justified the trade price.

The Taranto and Hopper deals were done separately, however if you look at it like this:

Taranto for pick 12 (2022) and this year's pick say pick 8

Hopper for Pick 19 and 31

Then both trades are acceptable

I like hopper because he reminds me of Andrew Underwood.
He got BOG against Essendon at windy hill 1991..
Thats enough for me to have him in my top 100
