Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

Hopper is worth 15, yes. Pick 19 is worth a little more than 19 because whoever has it will field offers from multiple clubs for it. I'd do 19 and 30 for Hopper and 39.
So you have Hopper’s value at about pick 7 to 8 ?

I think you are probably right.
If Kingsley does think that either Dow or RCD has further scope he may won't to include them in a trade, as there's no guarantee that he can get either of them as a rookie.

Yeah... I guess the other option is high draft picks. If we think RCD/Dow can develop, we may be prepared to trade some out... Still think we'll have to give up a good ordinary player or two.

You guys are all heading in the wrong direction. We have never traded a future first and I don’t believe that is going to change.

We'd won 15 games in two of the previous three seasons, finishing half a game from top 4. We'd already brought in a ruckman and were bringing in a midfield clearance star. The coach, who was backed to the hilt by the board and CEO, declared straight after the season that we'd return to finals in 2017. No one with any knowledge of our list would have predicted us to go backwards in 2017.

I'm being logical and dealing in facts.
Again, that’s just all Richmond fan perspective. GC’s perspective would have been that they’re in a state of flux - which we were. You’re only talking our own internal perspective . Not our oppositions. We didn’t have that board challenge for nothing as stupid and silly as it was.

It doesn’t matter anyway. If we split the diff and just call it a pick 6 cost, then 13,20 and 12 is still short if you wanna use Prestia as a reference and further short if you use Cerra.

Where do you have us finishing next year ?

We offered a future 1st in the well publicised Treloar saga.

If both players nominate Richmond we will make it happen and if that means trading a future first, then it will happen.

When a player commits to your club, you don't let them down - we aren't Essendon.

Yes that’s the general ball park but it will go the other way where the tail end is concerned. If you’re bullish about making top 8 again next year, then 13, 20 and say 12 for finishing 7th again (hypothetically) then I’m not sure that gets it done for both Taranto and Hopper. Hence it might be an exchange deficit eg our 3rd round for their 4th round. Or whatever.

13, 20 and 12 for both Taranto and Hopper strikes as unders for GWS if you use your Cerra deal as a reference which got Freo 6 and a third rounder on its own.

In fact, if you do the Draft order points comparison, it’s WAY unders for GWS comparatively speaking.
It might be unders for GWS but dont forget they are knee deep in salary cap crap. They wont roll over but they arent going to walk away from effectively 3 first round picks.

Conversely Smoker, they’re late first round picks ….and for two quality players entering their prime. Suspect we’re still contending with Geebung for Hopper too and who knows what they might throw up.

You sure the ask wont be for Nank instead? Soldo holds zero value imo. he is worse than pruess and only marginally better than flynn/briggs.

The picks we think we are giving up would be a steal if it were to happen. There is no way we get both - i just can't see it.

I reckon that’s a real possibility.

What’s the perceived Draft pick value of Soldo ?

Rucks are always valued higher. I'd say 30-40 personally.

If we use Neales trade as a guide.

Neale went for 6, 19, 55 with 30 going back to Brisbane.

Funnily enough we have pick 19, so we can use this as a gauge.

Neale is better than Taranto - thats pretty much a given right, so the trade should be for a bit less.

So in a similar method 12, (instead of 6) and 19 for 39 and Taranto.
Hopper is a bit harder, but if Soldo is included, it could be as simple as Soldo and 30 (though that feels like unders). Maybe an upgrade of a pick works. Maybe our 1st next year for their 2nd? Not sure.

You'd think Geelong would be throwing out their 1st

No.

No it's not.

First of course. I did admit I was being optimistic trying to sub next year's first for this year's.
Well your 19, 30 and getting 39 back for Hopper is the equivalent of giving up a pick 8 on a points basis so you’d need to re think that then if you have him as a pick 15 value or whatever. Edit: take the 39 off Redford and it works .

If you have us finishing first next year, then 13, 20 and 18 on their own most definitely don’t get it done for Taranto and Hopper.

It’s a fire sale. GWS have to accept unders. Their opening gambit has given us a great understanding of what they might accept. Reading the tea leaves I’d say they’d settle for our first and second this year and next year’s first. But if I were them I’d be asking for Miller somewhere in there. Cheap with enormous upside. But I hope we wouldn’t do it.

Soldo was a very good ruckman pre injury. He looks rusty to me, not shot. I think he’s worth a pick in the 20’s at best and I don’t think we’d take anything less that a pick in the mid 30’s.

Just my uninformed opinion re picks
