Welcome to the Tigers Jacob Hopper

It’s a fire sale. GWS have to accept unders. Their opening gambit has given us a great understanding of what they might accept. Reading the tea leaves I’d say they’d settle for our first and second this year and next year’s first. But if I were them I’d be asking for Miller somewhere in there. Cheap with enormous upside. But I hope we wouldn’t do it.
Correct...look at the unders collinwood got for treloar etc.

Stuff em...they get Castagna, RCD, pick 99 and a caveat we don't raid their soulless club for 5 more years !

PS Actual trade may not go this way

Geelong have picks 18, 36, 46
Richmond have picks 12, 19,30

Picks wise we have them covered. And if future picks are thrown up we still have them covered as all punters would probably have Geelong finishing above us next year.

So lets take Taranto out of the equation for one moment. I am saying Picks 12 & 19 get the job done.

Hopper -

Geelong offer Pick 18 & 36 - points value 1487 (equivalent to pick 9)
Richmond offer Future First (say pick 12) plus pick 30 with a future fourth coming back to us - points value 1739. (equivalent to pick 8)

Geelong could throw up a Parfitt or Esava but GWS need salary cap relief.

I just cant see how they trump us on a trade front.
Gws wouldn't take parfit and geelong would not trade like for Like mids as even they relize,we have a very old midfield with 14 players currently on their list 30 and older next year

I think we end up giving up more than most on here think we will. I think we pay fair value. Clubs tend not to screw each other over as much these days. Otherwise no way we get the pick we did for CCJ who couldve walked for nothing. As I've mentioned, i'm not sure both can be done but i think we give up plenty.....multiple firsts and 19 and player i reckon is starting point. Only gets bigger from there...

you have to give to get. Two mids in their prime.

Well your 19, 30 and getting 39 back for Hopper is the equivalent of giving up a pick 8 on a points basis so you’d need to re think that then if you have him as a pick 15 value or whatever. Edit: take the 39 off Redford and it works .

If you have us finishing first next year, then 13, 20 and 18 on their own most definitely don’t get it done for Taranto and Hopper.
I don't truck with points values because they're arbitrary and meaningless unless you're matching a bid. But by my calculations, 19 and 30 for Hopper and 39 values him at pick 15. Which is about right.

Let's not forget when Collingwood was forced to get rid of Treloar they accepted pick 14 while paying him 300 grand a year for several years to play for the Dogs. I'm not saying we'd do it but there is certainly the threat that we could hold firm on an offer we think reasonable and if they demand more, let it drift into the last couple of hours. They have to get these guys off the books. We won't go too hard on brinkmanship because we like to be fair and we don't *smile* players around like that, but equally they can't play trade chicken either.

All of this is of course me playing imaginary Blair Hartley, wanting to hold pick 12 because I'm in love with Keeler. Who will probably get drafted at pick 11.

Unders IMO, teams walk taller with an aggressive monster with a thousand-yard stare in the side, especially in finals. But I'll edit my value to 25-35.
And a good porno moustache to boot !

Suit Sydney I reckon.

Short is a perfect player to trade because his perceived value is greater than his real value. Soldo is probably the opposite.

The tiger defensive wing is more about having a tank to be able to get back ,to run from half back to half forward and Richmond coaches agree, thus a 5 year deal.

Gibcus is another whom despite being only 19 can run top 3 distances in games, blows up his opponent, just like Shorty does,so are extremely valuable to us.

First thing that needs to happen is both players have to nominate Richmond

Once that happens deal gets done 100%

Options are all the picks

The capital we have is 2022 1st 2022 2, 2nds
All of next years picks

+

Players

I think in the end you cant bring in $1.5m of players wages without something going back the other way

I have a feeling it will be Soldo and whatever we can get for George

We can cover him with Ryan, Miller and Biggie

So deal could be, Soldo + George + 12+ 30 + FI 2023 for Taranto + Hopper

Well, we are sort of matching bids because we are not the only clubs into these guys (Cwood and Geelong) and we also have to contend with precedence.

Not using any form of formulated reference is the most arbitrary position you can possibly take.

Short can play wing and finds plenty of ball,as that's basically how he plays half back.
He runs both ways and kicks pretty well. He is just not at his best at the contested stuff.
He is hungry however and I could see him kicking 25 from a wing, which may suit the MC as we desperately need a tagger in the midfield, and right now maybe Marlion is our best option in that role.

Don't need a tagger if we win the ball more at stoppages (our achilles heel). The club has identified this as a weakness and a key part of the way the game is played at the moment, hence Taranto and Hopper. This is all about taking our current gameplan and adding grunt to take away our weakness. I highly doubt we will start looking to tag players. Its not in Dimmas MO.

The kicks pretty well evaluation … not sure.

He’s number 3 for turnovers in the AFL. Cut him some slack for the high volume of posessions, but then again, the majority are uncontested unlike many other high rankers with bigger contested numbers eg Touk Miller, Oliver etc.

I think he’s on the inconsistent side.

Short has kicked 27 goals in his career and is now gun shy from even shooting. No chance in hell he'd kick 25 from a wing. He's not a Richmond winger anyway.

If not for the new contract he's actually the perfect trade candidate. (And I'm no longer a hater.)

Not sure how we're travelling salary cap wise, Shed, Lambert, Caddy and to a lesser extent Parker should help things.

GWS have salary cap issues.

Hopper is contracted for 2023, we might be able to get a trade done if we are able to pay take on some of his contract.

Correct...when you think about it if we can stop 2-3 goals per game coming out of the middle (very achievable with them), and get a few going the other way WOW !

The Sky's the limit with what we can do with them the way we play, and could be a 4 + goal per game better side next year if it happens.

Get excited Tiger boys.

We have to keep one in the bag though.
Our midfield is currently in some disarray.
Not saying we should recruit one just that we should have one available.

Agree Red Ford.. he goes for big yards doesn’t he?
From a wing he should be able to slot a few.
Yes, he is a big kick of the football. Loooong.

Accuracy by foot however, when not just doing "short" sideways kicks deep in defence, is another question. Think he's slid a bit since 2020 in that regard. I get a bit nervous when he's slanting one back into the corridor.

Occasionally he is great. There was one delivery in the 3qr of the 20 GF when he let go to a leading, backwards to goal, George. Hit him on the chest from 60 but unfortunately a fumble followed.

He played the role so well that year and won the JDM. He is not his best at contests but kicks with both and can intercept.

I think Baker and Dan now have those hbf positions down. Wouldn’t lose sleep if he was traded but I can’t see him going to GWS this year and in any event, like him on a wing.
