Welcome Hugo Ralphsmith

Hugo's 5 years aren't up yet, there's still time ;)

Hugo's answer to a recruiter at pre-draft interview:

Q. Are you going to be an ok AFL player, a good player or a great player?
A. “I’ll be a great player,” he states confidently.
Q. How great? What will they say about you in this draft in five years' time?
A. “They’ll look back and say I should have been a top-10 pick."
elite in confidence

going back a bit to look for a similar player, Hugo doesn't appear to have the burning desire that Matty White had , who started as an "athlete" and built some footy smarts over time
and was a good pick up for Port

hopefully something happens soon that flicks that switch inside

I’m really failing to see what AFL qualities Hugo brings to the table. Running? Maybe, but we don’t see much of it and his kick after he has run is often very ordinary.

The fact that Hugo is getting a game in the seniors is an alarming insight into our lack of depth.

Did a couple of nice things, and not much else. Needs to find a way to stay in the game between the occasional dashing run.

And learning to tackle wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

Cumberland was dropped for next week in the third quarter today.

Hugo should join him.

So we need a quick small forward right? How about Hugo. We know he's quick and can run all day. We don't want him in the backline as his short kicks in particular are too dangerous back there. With the goals he kicked on the weekend, could he be part of the answer forward of centre. Has a pretty good set shot for goal, can roast it from 50 so distance inside 50 doesn't phase him and can run all day.

Just seems like this is kind of staring us in the face and we'd be stupid to not try Hugo there.
Wasn’t he a forward pre draft?

Has to be tried on a wing where he can run all day , not the occasional run off half back.

Surely with Marlion forward he would be more suited than Ross. Ross having said that was okay , but is not a wingman.

It's a really strange set up. A contested midfielder on a wing. A wingman up in the pocket. Another wingman who can't kick out of half back.
I'm pretty much over Ralphsmith. He's a less talented, more athletic Tivendale.

Just watched the replay. I’m not as down on Hugo as many others. Execution needs to improve but was getting involved in plenty and was using his run. Certainly put his head over it when required. For me he needs to get a continuous block of games at AFL to settle in at that level. If he can get his execution up to around 80% and match that to his athleticism he will be a very handy player.

Seen enough of Hugo . Suggests get rid of the “ cult “ following and visit the Barbers tomorrow. Then a month down in the VFL and see how he goes . Isn’t hard enough. Both he and Juddy jump out of the way of shadows yesterday

You’re not referring to Ross are you?

All his fans ignore the fact he isn’t a contested beast. Otherwise he would be playing more minutes in the ball. It’s pretty clear the coaching staff don’t see him as a consistent onballer.

At half time yesterday I had delisted him. By the end of the game he's holding on by a thread. Still unsure if he is going to make it or not. Not sure if we should persevere and see if he comes good or give Banks a shot at it now?
