Welcome Hugo Ralphsmith

For the reasons that you state, we can't play Hugo in the back half, but then pushing him forward means you don't see his major one wood so much (his pace).

I think the only place that he might work well is as a small pressure forward. Has a big boot on him so when he gets free should be good for kicking goals (if he can kick them straight) and his pace would worry defenders. Maybe we can re-purpose him in the 2's for the rest of the season.
Heres an idea play Hugo on the wing and Marlion in the middle

For mine he hasnt shown any real improvement on any of his glaring deficiencies for the past 3 years.

Is still reactive, is still soft thus lacks composure and burns the footy when he has it. and is poor one on one.

He can run but thats not enough.
Well said Craigo.

Unfortunately I just don’t see it with Hugo.

Battler who would have been ok back in the 90’s

Different game now, a player like him nowadays needs to be elite by foot, which he is far from.

Time to move on.

Hugo's 5 years aren't up yet, there's still time ;)

Hugo's answer to a recruiter at pre-draft interview:

Q. Are you going to be an ok AFL player, a good player or a great player?
A. “I’ll be a great player,” he states confidently.
Q. How great? What will they say about you in this draft in five years' time?
A. “They’ll look back and say I should have been a top-10 pick."

I’m assuming he will be sub tomorrow night over Sonsie.

Hopefully he can tidy up his kicking and not be exposed one on one. Otherwise he can be a dangerous sub with his run and carry.

So we need a quick small forward right? How about Hugo. We know he's quick and can run all day. We don't want him in the backline as his short kicks in particular are too dangerous back there. With the goals he kicked on the weekend, could he be part of the answer forward of centre. Has a pretty good set shot for goal, can roast it from 50 so distance inside 50 doesn't phase him and can run all day.

Just seems like this is kind of staring us in the face and we'd be stupid to not try Hugo there.

I’ve had that thought, too, Mr P. I also don’t understand why we haven’t given Short a run there.

Because he wont put his head over the ball.

Ralphsmith is the prototype of Richmond's drafting.
He can Run, he can last, but no skill and avoids contact

He did everything physically possible in the preseason to establish his position in the senior team & I respect that but his basic skills just aren't at the level.
Elite disposal is paramount now for a player in an outside role & he is verry outside.

Dow & Ralphsmith are right up against it largely because of because of their ropey disposal. The game has shifted quickly since they were drafted. Can't carry too many poor kicks.
