Welcome Hugo Ralphsmith

Dunno why anyone wants to make a definitive decision at r6.

We already have George gone, then Tarrant Cotch and Jack likely. At minimum
Might be a few others ahead of Hugo
No 1st round so at best its a r4 pick.
So why be so keen to cut a 21 yo?
Because it's his 4th year and he's tapered off. I don't see the graph trending up, in fact as I've said elsewhere he's getting slightly less of the ball than last year, and using it "less efficiently". He's an outside player, we need class and impact from that position. I can't see him supplanting any of our running players off half back.
I can't see him being an upgrade on either of our normal wings, nor better than Ross who shouldn't really be on the wing in the first place.
I'd love, love for him to come good. From where we've been drafting from, we need significantly more of our picks to hit the mark than not. I just can't see it with Hugo.

Hugo was better tonight than previous weeks. 92% disposal efficiency and 5 contested possessions out of 13 is a good return against a decent opposition. I'm a fan and really hope he makes it. He'll get a game next week for sure and can't see him being cut considering our expected retirements anyway.

His last quater marks were fantastic and he set up some scoring chains. Good stuff.

Yeah, he was critical when the Cats got their tails up in the last. A few young guys showed some poise, which was nice. A few older guys didn't, which was concerning.

He's a funny player. I'm ok with him playing sensible. I think he's accidentally hard. If he hits the ball everybody else falls over. Once he understands that he'll hit it more often.

His dumb with ball in hand seems to be improving. Isaac Smith had 2SI. Hugo had 4SI. Constructive. And he knows where the outlet is these days. He can learn? Can do.

Hugo rallied late in R8. And used the ball. And he plays taller and heavier than the packet says. Looks 189/89 to me.

In R8 2023 I think he passed Jack Ross.

Completely different player to Ross. Ross has worked his backside off to become a low 6min 2km runner when this was never his thing. Watch him in game, he runs that wing non stop. Just doesn’t have the speed.
Mate of mine was coaching at Sandy while Hugo was there. Was always a running machine at sprints or 2km TT.
Great last qtr from Hugo, may it long continue

Hugo was quiet for the first 3 quarters but was outstanding in the last.
Hopefully a big step forward.
I just like him more forward that playing at halfback, more of a wing to me

It's bloody funny, was thinking about this last night when we were honouring the Bash as our homecoming hero.
Raaalph's played 25 games for us.
Bash played 26 games for Essendrugs before we poached him as an unrestricted.
People keep hanging *smile* on Raaalph for being soft / timid to loose with his disposal. But he can run really fast for lots n lots.
Reckon I could safely bet my left one, ( or perhaps my right one just in case I've already lost my left one in a safe bet ) that if we went back to the first couple of years of the welcome Bash thread there would be reams and reams of similar comments about Bash.
I'm not about to put Raaalph in the Bash category just yet, the kids still got a hell of a long way to go in his career, but Christ we put a lot of effort into bagging kids who are just starting their careers n trying to find their feet in the premium competition.

He straightlined one in the first quarter (didn't have time to think) and The World's Tallest Rabbit, Mark B!tcharse, fell over himself jumping out of the way.

Houli didn't have many fans pre 2017 TBH, though he was good from about 2013. Still, he was at least 60 or 70 games in before he established himself as a really good player.
