Welcome Hugo Ralphsmith

I think we need to keep pumping games into him as well to see where he is at. His running power and speed are elite. We just need to play the wing more often as I think he gets pushed off the ball too easily still.
Probably needs to take up athletics then. Coz he doesn't seem much good at footy. Was woeful tonight.

It’s not personal. Did you see how easily he went to ground tonight? It’s not the first time. I don’t think he plays in a premiership ever, especially at half back, so he is a gap filler. If we gunna rebuild let’s do it right.
Bachar and Shane Edwards used to cop heaps on here but they had real tools and I never bagged them - this guy I think would be a 10/10 boundary umpire
How many mistakes did Bach and especially Shedda make after 20 games????

Yep.
We have seen enough.
Pushed off the ball by Heeney Goal.
Runs 3kms without bouncing it Goal Sydney.
Misses a basic 20m pass Goal Sydney.
Too many things to fix

Sorry, but he's a liability in the back half. How many goals was he at fault for tonight? 3? 4? How many more before we realise that his weaknesses are outweighing his good qualities down there. I'd rather try someone else, particularly when the rest of the defence is playing so unsettled.
I’m not a fan of Hugo at all, but we don’t have a heap of options with playing others at the moment.
Bauer, banks, green and Dow the only players who didn’t play tonight who are fit enough to play. Doesn’t leave us with a heap of options.

I agree not many options and Bauer and Green aren't ready so puts us down to only 2 options unless Short is fit.

If Shorts not fit, I'd prefer we move Hugo forward of the ball, he's not so bad going forward and whilst is kicking isn't great, I suspect we would gain more of his kicking being further up the ground. His ball use is too weak to be played in the back half. If he plays next week, I'd like to see him switched with Clarke, would like to see him behind the ball. Reckon he's a beautiful kick and he has similar pace so can still link up play running past. The other option is potentially moving Pickett back and either moving Hugo to the wing or giving Banks his debut.

I just don't think we can afford to keep Hugo in the back half. We aren't playing well enough to cover this role.

The only gain we would get is that the opposition would regain the ball further away from their goal. Which is something I guess.

His short kicking is our biggest problem, if we have Hugo getting closer to goal and kicking long to the goal square, he would probably do well. Its these short kicks that comes unstuck with him. If he has the ball out in space and kicking long, he would be ok, but we can't carry him in the back half.

If he has to be in the side then I agree. I just don't want him in the side. I really didn't like that contest he lost to Heeney; that was really poor. Showed a lack of intensity and strength. He should never have lost that. He really should have won it but he should have at least halved it. Cost a goal.

Can’t kick & simply isn’t good enough one on one. Has one strength and that’s running - can’t ever see him being an AFL premiership player.

Plenty on here bashed Bash n Shedda n Grigga etc. over and over for years, way past their initial 20 games. And Yes, we still do it again and again to the youngsters just starting out with the same crap expert opinions. To soft, can't kick, don't this, don't that will never play in a premiership side.
Just goes to prove that most of us experts on these forums don't really know *smile* even when it's squeezing up between their toes.

HRS is not my favourite type i.e. poor skills and questionable decision making...but we have had others that have been contributors with these traits. K-Mac comes to mind.

KMac regularly wins or halves one-on-one contests, Ralph-Smith does not

I thought he was alright. Looked to me he spent most of the night on Hayward, a very good player who had 9 touches, didn't score and had minimal impact. Hugo ran off him and got 18. He makes blues but he keeps coming. He's quick and has an attacking mindset.

I wouldn't call myself a fan but I think we have to keep playing him.
