Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

Hate to be the voice of dissent / TBR2 but the tackle knocked the ball out with a fist before it was a tackle - or it at least appears that way on the umpire view - so not a HTB even if there has been prior opportunity. Never. (Except when it happens to Richmond vs BL and isn't even a legal tackle and just a slap of the ball).

Personally, I reckon they should change this rule so that if you knock the ball out in the tackle (i.e. not just a slap of the ball with no tackle) and the player has had prior opportunity then that's HTB too to make it black and white. The rule as it is written is so open to interpretation as to if the 'legal tackle causes the football to be dislodged". WTF is dislodged. I take it to be a slap out, but if it's a Richmond player pinning both arms and the Carlton player just drops it I'm sure the umpire will interpret that as dislodged too and then the Carlton player will drop the knees and jump forward and it will be in the back.

Also for the avoidance of doubt is the most laughable phrase the AFL could have added there. They literally take the *smile*.
I read that to say if you have prior you must dispose of the ball properly- a handball or kick.
If you don't have prior then you can't dispose of it illegally- throw or drop it- but you don't have to dispose the ball legally- but you must try.

If you consider Daicos had prior then it should be holding the ball, if you don't think he has prior then it is not.

We talking about the Daicos HTB? If so watch the entire clip. The front on view clearly shows no contact to the ball from the dogs player. Not sure it even looks like that from the in play vision.

It literally says it is not an illegal disposal even with prior if the ball is dislodged right under where it says you have to make a genuine attempt to dispose of it.

Yep I agree. On first view I thought it got punched out so maybe that is what the umpire saw. In super slow mo It did get ‘dislodged’ by a hand as the tackle starts on the forearm and then pushes the ball out so the afl can still tick it off as correct (or incorrect).

I agree it should be HTB. I’m just pulling out what the written rule states.

Will the new HTB interpretation apply to Geelong when playing at Kardinia Park? Just asking for a friend…..

What happened to the reading the players reaction tish they've trotted out in the past. The Messiah thought he was done cold.....so much so the looks up at high flyer Howe and tells him off for not letting him know he was hot!

Felt like we were getting a massive ride from the umps. 13-8 with a bunch of out on the fulls. So actually pretty even. Amazing how we are conditioned to being f****d to the extent that 'about even' frees feels like biased favouritism to us

Incredible half. Best umpired game I have ever watched. Easily. Almost no bad decision.

There were a few inconsistencies with htb. I thought the one on fridge in the goal square was poo. Also mcintosh was pinged and called after having an arm clamped. But we've seen a couple cats players caught identically and no reward. But I'll take the current count anytime! We were 9 1 at one stage. Reckon they'll be a similarly huge correction in the second half or maybe the uncovering of the ump wire has cleaned this practice up.

True to form the brain dead umpires over corrected the htb rule and have gone trigger happy and totally ignored prior opportunity. Everything the AFL touch in terms of rules and interpretation turns to *smile*. This is now a worse spectacle than a week ago.

I seen it, but I don't believe it. We got a fair shake, down at kardinia Park.
