Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

Said it before I'll say it again. If you want good umpires, hire ex-players.

Speaking of, I'm making my umpiring debut this Sunday for the Byron under-15s. I expect it to be a piece of p!ss, zero controversy. Will report.

The umps having earpieces in reminds me of all those American comedies when the shy hunky guy goes on a date with the dreamgirl and the nerdy guy who is good with words, and eventually ends up with the dreamgirl, tells him what to say via an earpiece. The nerdy guy gets distracted and says unrelated stuff that the shy guy blurts out verbatim with hilarious results.

We will get screwed on the weekend.
Afl 360 showed 11 examples of holding frees, some paid, others not paid.
We will get the 2 seconds holding the ball while Geelong will get the conventional 12 minutes to release the ball.

**They need to stop Collingwood grabbing the ball and as soon as they are being tackled releasing the ball.
They bent us with rule changes, they need to do something about Collingwood.
Pinoccio & Robbo were onto it last night.
Not releasing the ball and then having the 3rd player jumping on top.

Some of us have questioned umps mic'ed up for years, hearing a 3rd person d8rect a deliberate call from the stands.
the umps should not be mic'ed up at all. Treated like foorballers on the field. Goal umps only place needed for comms so give them a bat phone to be used in an emergency only.
And people are so caught up in bett8ng scandals, how about the AFL governance scandal

A shoe phone would be better.

It's under-15s. Not sure if there's a card systemt but if there is I'll warn the kids any abuse and they're off.

Any parent wants to have a go can meet me after the game for a full and frank exchange of views.

They get talked to in the breaks too.

I recall a game against Hawthorn, maybe 2018, where we were getting totally reamed by the umps and had 2 frees to half time. The change in their adjudication after half time was really obvious and they got the free kick count a bit closer by the end of the game.

There has to be some explanation as to why we have such a disadvantageous record on frees for the last 7.5 years with the changes in coaches, players, rules etc. We need an explanation.

The 'highlights reel' of terrible HTb decisions is amazing. To see one then another one later is one thing, but to see them all queued up in an edited package is shocking, and I think all from last round.

Yeah, the evening up of frees is pretty obvious.

They're no good I'm afraid. They can't help watching the ball in flight-which is not where the action is.

I liked a couple of the decisions from last night. Walsh had the ball in one arm that was not pinned yet refused to attempt a disposal. He got pinged. Well done. It also happened with Curnow. Definitely a change, and it seemed players were keen to move the ball on as soon as they sensed they were being tackled. More urgency to dispose of it rather than accept a tackle and subsequent stoppage. As it always should be.

So basically they got umpired the way Richmond is?

We will probably be pinged for HTB now before we even take possession. (and have it signed off by the AFL as common sense)

Also noticed players not taking the ball. 3-4 knock ons when they could have grabbed it.
