Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

The umps having earpieces in reminds me of all those American comedies when the shy hunky guy goes on a date with the dreamgirl and the nerdy guy who is good with words, and eventually ends up with the dreamgirl, tells him what to say via an earpiece. The nerdy guy gets distracted and says unrelated stuff that the shy guy blurts out verbatim with hilarious results.

you reckon Razor Ray is gonna marry Yabby Holmes in a dream wedding?

It's under-15s. Not sure if there's a card systemt but if there is I'll warn the kids any abuse and they're off.

Any parent wants to have a go can meet me after the game for a full and frank exchange of views.

if you're playing Ballina, im coming.

might even hook up a secret ump coaching mike and deny admit it

Said it before I'll say it again. If you want good umpires, hire ex-players.

Speaking of, I'm making my umpiring debut this Sunday for the Byron under-15s. I expect it to be a piece of p!ss, zero controversy. Will report.
Umpires Cripps, Walls, Ratten, Southby for the opening match of the new AFL Season!

Wow, that is blatant even before the recent rule change. How much prior does he get?

Pathetic.

DS
I reckon play on. Guys should be given a moment to dispose. He wasn't trying to beat any tackles or go for a run.

Hate to be the voice of dissent / TBR2 but the tackle knocked the ball out with a fist before it was a tackle - or it at least appears that way on the umpire view - so not a HTB even if there has been prior opportunity. Never. (Except when it happens to Richmond vs BL and isn't even a legal tackle and just a slap of the ball).

Personally, I reckon they should change this rule so that if you knock the ball out in the tackle (i.e. not just a slap of the ball with no tackle) and the player has had prior opportunity then that's HTB too to make it black and white. The rule as it is written is so open to interpretation as to if the 'legal tackle causes the football to be dislodged". WTF is dislodged. I take it to be a slap out, but if it's a Richmond player pinning both arms and the Carlton player just drops it I'm sure the umpire will interpret that as dislodged too and then the Carlton player will drop the knees and jump forward and it will be in the back.

Also for the avoidance of doubt is the most laughable phrase the AFL could have added there. They literally take the *smile*.

That view from the first angle of the tackle (which I presume you mean is the umpires view) just looks like a good tackle to me, HTB

I don’t disagree - I think it’s a fine tackle too. I just think the very first action is a fist/slide down the arm which knocks/dislodges the ball out and per the rules that is not HTB. (Unless it is)

Just read those rules. They are ridiculous.

The AFL pick and choose when they want to follow the rules to the letter or use the “common sense” approach.
For anyone that has watched a lot of footy, that was a clear HTB.
It has been for over 125 years.
I look at it this way. If that was paid last night, no one would be talking about it at all. Because it wasn’t, here we are.
That says something.
