Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

i would love someone to interview Dimma and ask him why we have such a poor free kick differential consistently

is he still on the richmond payroll, or can he speak freely now?

What I don’t understand is the total silence about this.

Nothing from the club, nothing from the media. They can’t criticise the tackle stuff enough yet act like this is a non issue. Bizarre.
This is the first time i have seen any comment from anyone other than Tigers Fans, the below was from Grant Thomas on Twitter, Saturday night:

9fk V 19fk and as a Saints fan the umpires have definitely kept us in the game. I’ll say it again and again….umpiring has more influence on outcomes of our game than any other game on the planet.

We have been gifted by umpiring on several occasions. Tigers should be 5g in front in my view.

Kingy is getting paid a few marks recently that he hasn’t held on to….

Have to say I don’t take much comfort from that. Thomas is about two steps off being one of those sovereign citizen nutcases. If he says something its more likely wrong.

Not on footy. He's generally spot on. Very critical of the AFL. Knows footy.

He is onto it!

Hands in the back is not a push in the back.
spilled out in the tackle is not dropping the ball
bracing and surrenduring for a coming tackle is not prior opp, ball-up, but a slight defensive fend is taking on the tackler is prior opp, HTB.

Contradictory, illogical, reactive rule changes. As he says its not the umps fault. The AFL is responsible for the umps.

This one does my head in. Our players have to be smarter though and know the interpretation and not 'what it should be'.

Prestia another who again didn't make the pretend attempt to get it out and got pinged.

Have to be smarter given the rules are stupid - if that makes sense.

Yes makes sense, but extremely hard for players with no clear philosophy or consistency. Playing to the whistle is a balance, some players do it more than others, but all players do it sometimes to some extent, doing it more might be required, sadly.

Yes the brace/ surrender, get tackled, ball-up is a blight IMO. If you've got time to tuck the ball in, brace and flop, logically you've got time to dispose of it. If help isn't nearby, bad luck, that is the point of the rule.

You obviously know nothing about Sovereign Citizens then. What absolute tripe

They are quite nutcasey IMO. None of their philosphies make any sense. At least not if you're rational. Actually wouldn't surprise me if Hocking is one now I think about it.

It is perfectly understandable because that is the way it works. Clubs criticising umpires in the media is frowned upon and to be honest I would probably agree with that.
It is hard enough to get umpires now for one thing.
That doesn’t mean there are not discussions and representations behind closed doors that we are not privy to.

If you go back 5 or 6 weeks I think our free kick count was reasonably close (For and Against).
IMHO The Dumpires are "Happy" to give us frees when we do not appear to be challenging.

Since our upturn say last 4 weeks approx. I've noticed it turn to more the norm of recent years.
The "Shaft-o-meter" has been dialled up as out threat for The F word increases/continues.

Last 2 weeks City Hall has cranked up The Shaft-o-meter even more.
Now we have ballooned to minus -35 on the count.

Parity is restored, Razor Ray and his pea blowing fraternity are sipping Lattes and scheming how else to stick it to us.

The fact we are winning despite the shaft gives me great joy!
Go Tiges!

Go back another week and it is 81 frees against and 43 frees for. Aarrgghh.
So it's about 10 free kicks a game

FMD

I can understand that we give away more free kicks. I accept some of that can be put down to our surge helter skelter game style at times.

However we don't get the free kicks other teams get. Perhaps we don't flop and stage enough.

When we do get free kicks, the majority of them seem to be in deep defensive areas of the ground that rarely cost our opponents a goal.

When we concede free kicks it's invariably in the attacking half of the ground or a direct shot at goal.

What has our game come to in the hands of these assclowns, that you have to pretend you're trying to handball and flop about like a landed sailfish instead of the umpire just blowing the whistle for a ball up ? The time to make an effort to get rid of the ball isn't when you're laying squashed on the bottom of a pack with the ball locked under you.

So what's the point of having FOUR umpires ?!?
I don’t think there is one. Last week Dwayne Russell said he was initially for it (no surprise there, he’s an AFL mouthpiece), but seeing it in operation and either not making a difference, or making an already bad situation even worse, he’s no longer in favour of it.

I did some light reading on Wiki and have stumbled across the reason why we have been shafted for such a very long time.

“In 1896, Richmond walked off the field in a match against South Melbourne to protest the umpiring, ….”

And there you have it. AFL never forgets.

Flippantly reviewed on real footy podcast. Apparently our game style and least disciplined team in the league.

Didn’t touch on the frees for though which is really what the majority of the angst is. The ones we aren’t getting.
