Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

TigerForce said:
Newman was asked about if Freo were more desperate to the ball and he responded "Freo got a lot of free kicks coz they were first to the footy and probably were there" while Dimma quietly giggled. It's obvious what he's insinuating. He also pretended he didn't know how he got whacked by Ballantyne.

Dimma was asked about Lyon's game plan and he responded "it's tough, he plays a tough game of footy" but in a tone of voice where he doesn't really appreciate it.

Thanks TF.

They play an ugly brand of footy that's for sure and conditions today certainly helped them.

And we should have responded with a tougher game of footy and stop being victims. Ballentine should have been targeted in a way that would hurt him legally, players behind the ball, players running through packs, not the old one, two for God's sake

I haven't seen the game but they said on ABC radio that Tigers might bemoan the uneven count but Freo actually got the frees because they wanted the ball more.

That's exactly how I saw the game Rosy...I think people try and look for someone else to blame when the fact is only a handful of the fellas had a crack.

There is truth in that, but on the other side, some of the free kicks were very soft, given at crucial times that shifted momentum and when pay back was given, it was unsubstantial.
I almost felt as if the AFL needed Freo to win at the MCG, it was a very one sided affair.
The MMM commentators said 17 to 24 didn't effect result, well i say it was the pivotal moments they were given that cost us.
Our blokes were getting smashed, Freo blokes were hardly touched and given free kicks.

In the end our boys tried to play dry weather footy on a soggy wet day, with a mindset that clearly it was gonna be all too easy. We should have smashed Freo umpires or not. It was a soft effort from our mob.

Does that mean you think the AFL instructed the umpires to cheat to ensure a Freo win?

At the ground I thought we may be getting a raw deal ,its easy to get caught up in the crowd and the emotion

Got into the car after the game , had the radio on MMM , tiger supporters were ringing in complaining, they ( commentary team) would have nothing of it , and said Freo were first to the ball and tackled better , put themselves in a position to receive the frees.

I havnt seen a replay yet so im not sure , dont particularly want to either .

That sounds like a cop out comment designed to belittle or silence frustrated Tiger fans. The umpiring was overly officious, appalling and 1 sided. We were bad as were the umpires.

Reading kiwi's previous post it seems the commentary teams on at least 2 different radio stations shared the same opinion. Maybe they have a conspiracy against Tiger fans...or maybe they're a tad less biased than we are. :headscratch

Forget commentators on radio stations - nothing more than AFL puppets. Umpiring was terrible, but not sole reason we lost.

Club still needs to continually lodge formal complaints to AFL about umpiring standards. Was like opposition having one extra player.

I didnt say anything about conspiracy theories Rosy. Seems the commentators aknowledged the umpiring descrepency for them to make comment. If there really was no issue with the umpiring they wouldnt have to make comment.

I have heard this a lot. May have been the case, but I have seen a few games where we are first to the ball and still get a raw free kick count.

What annoys me more than anything is the inconsistencies. Good example, Houli on his back throws the ball on to his boot and it is called a throw. later in the game, almost identical thing from a freo player....play on. Don't care if they were different umpires, the same rules apply, one is right, but one has to be wrong!

Don't agree it cost the game.....it may have, but we played *smile* house. If we played to our recent standards, we could have won even with the umpiring!!

Wasn't there a very lop-sided free count at one stage tim? I thought that was what they were commenting on...that and the fact they read PRE. :hihi

I'd like to think I'm fairly objective and being at the ground I think they were the recipient of some some very soft free kicks. I'm not sure how "wanting the ball more" justifies such a lop sided free kick count. "Wanting the ball more" sounds like an old commentators cliche.

Agreed - it was rubbish today.

I saw us wanting the ball just as much as they did. key points for me
1. being tackled just before receiving the ball - a lot
2. round the neck missed
3. in the back missed

most telling *smile* up - not penalising the little twat in the last 1/4 for pushing morris in the back. led to an immediate goal

they fully deserved the spray they got at full time

Agree on all that. Extremely frustrating.
