Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

The Vickery missed free was a disgrace! the umpire was clearly blind sided though.
A few iffy decisions but most were there imo, we were just lazy and undisciplined.

Was no umpiring farce today.
No, it wasn't a farce, it was pretty much business as usual. That means that the game was umpired incompetently as it has been for a number of years. Just like players can have a bad game, and Richmond were terrible today, so can the umpires. Unfortunately the umpires bad games seem to significantly outnumber their good ones.

Is it that hard to believe people other than yourself have some idea about footy and have valid opinions on the game the just watched?

Every week we get torched by the umpires. EVERY WEEK. The AFL have it in for us, Gieschen does too. The media are to blame for supporters dreaming of finals. EVERYONE outside our club is out to get us. Even Dwayne Russel in his commentary stitched us up. Woe is us...we never get a good run. A good side out of luck.

You can have your opinion, as do I...Like you, I voice mine. And they are polar opposites. I didn't think the umpiring had an impact on the result...but like every loss this year, I knew some would blame the umpires. I thought our insipid play cost us the game. You may think differently...that's fine, this is a forum after all (last time I checked anyway).

Of course it is and of course you can have your opinion. I just don't like the fact you're trying to belittle every opinion contrary to yours by putting it down to mental frailty.

the umpires made some shockers against us for sure..
but i refuse to blame them

we showed a complete lack of guts today..too bloody fancy...and it didn't work

plus dimma waqs completely out coached..why on earth he didn't drop the wingers and half forwards further into their fowarf line i couldn't work out
i really hate ross lyons style...it was bloody awful football today..30 players on the ball,,,,just awful....

Reaction to the umpiring is partly a function of media hype. Many people went today expecting a win and found it hard to believe we were being beaten; hence the umpiring seemed worse than it was (not that it was great).

Well said Disco.

Mr Groundhog Day must be a barrell of laughs at parties. ::)

but how do you justify penalising Vickory for hodling the ball when you are tackle around the head. If the Giesh gives this the all clear then yu can tackle anyway you like. Crucial time 7 points down and on the wing.

That decision just topped off what was a great game for Heave Ho by those little green pr!cks.

Unbelievable really. ::)

You will always find me in the kitchen at parties (while everyone else is in the lounge winging about the umpires).

I wish! Would be more exciting than most of the parties I go to!!
If you're invited to any AFLUA parties, watch out for the mirrors.

I was disapointed that the umpires did not set an early standard by pinging the Fremantle players who made no attempt to
get the ball out of the pack.
This would have stopped the contant rolling stoppage *smile* that I had to watch today (and will not go and see again).

Exciting basketball to boring rugby scrum in 7 days.

Heh heh....Newy and Dimma made some 'I'll tell you what I don't really mean' comments regarding umpiring and Freo's rugby style in the presser.

The umpires were pathetic, but what's more concerning is they have turned the game into Rugby Union with their obvious intent to allow packs to form without calling a ball-up immediately. This, and todays conditions played right into Freo's hands. The 4 points went missing, but I'm not going to ditch the season on this absolute trash of a game!

As much as I hate Etihad, we'd have towelled them if the game was played there today.

Got to say I thought the umpires were terrible today but not particularly biased. The free kicks we got dearly in the third quarter after the upires had seen the free kick count at half time were as bemusing as any paid all day.

Thought if a player jumped on the footy without making an attempt it was a free kick today they just let the scrum roll along. Terrible spectacle

What was said TF?

Newman was asked about if Freo were more desperate to the ball and he responded "Freo got a lot of free kicks coz they were first to the footy and probably were there" while Dimma quietly giggled. It's obvious what he's insinuating. He also pretended he didn't know how he got whacked by Ballantyne.

Dimma was asked about Lyon's game plan and he responded "it's tough, he plays a tough game of footy" but in a tone of voice where he doesn't really appreciate it.
