Trade Week - Richmond Only

History of picks means its something like "most of Soldo" + graham + 1 of the freebie downtrades ending in mcauliffe + our actual 3rd rounder = 20.

So sort of graham + a 3rd rounder + like three quarters of a soldo = end of a first round pick in a good draft, which seems more reasonable..

We still have one of the freebie mcauliffe downtrades (51) plus also 76 + faucett + 70, i think, from out-trading soldo (?)

Not sure why we wouldnt have given 51, 61 and 70 instead of 42 though, as its more points. I guess the picks all push out on the night after bids so the late late ones may end up being worthless to brisbane by the time of the marshal bid (but wouldnt impact ashcroft and noones getting bid before he is)

We had competition for Pick 20.
We weren't going to use all those picks.

There's no point dealing with us if they get back exactly why they gave us. We basically gave up 4 meh picks, and got a good one back.

Those picks would be lucky to get 1 player to play 100 games.
We got a pick back that gives us the chance to get someone who'll get more , given the depth of the draft.

Good work Blair
There was no other competition for pick 20

Yes, exactly. Good trade for Richmond and that's what they set up from last years trading to do.

Still get to keep 400 points worth of picks the back end.

No way could have got a better deal.

The only thing Blair could have done differently in acquiring pick 20 in this year's draft is maybe get something back for 2025 to strengthen our draft hand moving fwd.

Bit disappointed that we gave up pick 32 - a pretty useable pick in a strong draft. I’ve been kinda barracking against Freo all year knowing we had that pick whereas now it’s just become a vehicle for the current premiers to snaffle the best kid in the draft.

Is this for real? We traded 1,704 points for 912? Blair is a push over.
Who gives a stuff about point value? We just got another early pick in a strong draft and gave away picks we were never going to use.

Hopefully have something in play for draft night…… or next year….
In Blair we trust.

Stan

smart cookie is our Blair, revist this trade @ COB next Wednesday before passing judgement
Exactly. The hand wringing and wailing at this point with no idea of what the discussions were, and ongoing discussions with other clubs currently are, is ridiculous.

Looking at our trading history, we're not suckers, we're relatively fair. The only team to constantly screw us over during trade period is the AFL with our FA comp.

This is just theatre

The only one who benefits from this long drawn out BS is the media.

The problem for us is several weeks of trade drama will generate more ad revenue than a tidy 3 days. That increase ultimately increases the value of media rights, which means in the end the players get more money.

In it's raw form, we're invited to trade patience in exchange for ad revenue to pay for players, staff, and boys club activities at AFL house, and all of those payments are totally necessary.

It's not about using the picks. It's about maximising the trades with other clubs. We've now thrown away all of our picks that could have been used. Pick 32 could easily have been used as a sweetener to get pick 13 from GC as they need the points for Lombard. That's 584 points.

Blair got rolled we could have insisted they take them from the back end it would have made very little difference to Brisbane just as long as they have the points.

If the expected trades dont eventuate, losing 32 will be more significant as we would 99% use it. If the trades go through then probably not using 32 anyway. must be somewhat confident of outgoing player trades happening
