Trade Week - NON-Richmond only

Think a week and a half is about right. Alot of time is needed to speak to other clubs, negotiate and work out all the possibilities based on those conversations then go back to the clubs with initial and revised proposals before any deal can be done. You can't just make a deal without assessing all other possibilities and permutations.

Every year: the hope, the hype, the wanton fantasy.
Every year: the stupefaction, the boredom, the impotence.

A week and a half of creatio ex nihilo.

Geez the AFL is dull. Pretty sure AFL trade week is being used in some black site somewhere to draw confessions out of peeps with black bags over their head.

I assume they're all in the same location for the whole trade period? How hard is it to go to that club and ask, then that club and ask? Then go back and answer. There's only a few clubs each club is dealing with, each club isn't dealing with the whole other 17 clubs.

There's something wrong with this system for it to take 9 days to sort out, what is it, 20 trades? And that's not taking into account the ground work done BEFORE trade period begins.

The length of the trade period only bothers those who expect something to happen. Rather than complaining about the same thing every year, just check in daily and see what hasnt happened.

As an aside the NBA trade period runs for about 6 months, but there is always a ridiculous flurry in the last hours.

This whole event should be called The Stupefaction.

Hah hah hah hah. No surprises that the AFL led media - specifically the HS in this instance - are suggesting Footscray have to take pick 17 from Geelong for Bailey Smith and be done with it. That's good enough.

What ?? That'd be like winning Tattslotto for Geelong the absolute, Bona fide, media darlings of the AFL.

*** unreal. It just never stops.
The AFL is a contrived sytem Redders its obvious now.

I think a Tuesday - Monday week would be fine.
Nothing gets submitted over the weekend, but it'd give people 2 days to get their *smile* sorted before submitting everything on the Monday.

The current arrangement is just a wank.

Agree to some extent.

Keep father/son I reckon that is reasonable.

Compo for a free agent is a bit dodgy, maybe get rid of it, but at the very least reduce the compensation. Say, Band 1 is 2nd round and go from there.

Academies are a total rort. Either get rid of them, or teams get preference on players who are signed to the club in the VFL, WAFL and SANFL (TFL too in a few years?).

DS
F/S should actually revert to the 50 game minimum eligibility and more teams would get decent ones. Agree all the other crap should be pissed off.

Not sure if reported elsewhere but Essendon are now entertaining offers for their pick 9. They are concerned a Kako bid will come before it.
We should go super hard for it.

Wonder if we started that story?

It all depends who is bidding on Kako.
Reports are its Demons so trading with us for pick 6 would be useless. And we will not trade our future first.

Reports also that Dees are keen to trade to get pick 9. Seems like a reasonable tactic

Somebody, quite possibly Jason Taylor or his minion leaked it to Marc McGowan, seven.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl...of-a-wide-open-afl-draft-20240930-p5kek3.html (The full story is on the 2024 draft thread.)

BTW Rosa was interviewed today and admitted that the Dumbers had tried to trade up but probably couldn't. It was always on the cards that Taylor was trolling Rosa. Time will tell.

It gets better. I suspect MFC might be about to fox a move on Tauru. Hey, maybe they really want him. But it could be that Taylor wants somebody else and is trolling Thursfield into keeping #2 for Tauru. So somebody else slips.

The scoop PRE broke was Lalor at #1. Stan shared a little mail on that last week. Twomey was hours later. Everybody else the next day.
