Tigers v Hawks game day

I have to be honest , the Caracalla concerns are there for me, and I want it to be an overreaction

No idea if it’s a real concern, but if the game plan needs tweaking/ adjusting , I have concerns he isn’t part of it anymore , and it’s based on no inner knowledge of any kind , just listening to the talk and innuendo of what he has brought to the club thus far, and now it’s not there

didnt see any multiple tackles, and we are playing rusty, similar to last year where we struggled early to mid season, lets just remember that we are not primed to be great early, but i would bring back nank as the loss around the ground is so evident currently .

There issomething not right, obviously.
But its almost the entire team except for Flossy and the defense gang.
The list of players that had no impact is soooo long. Mids and small forwards.
Training we are killing it and everyone looks marvellous.
Then match day we leak goals and really struggle to play our gamestyle.
Fitness levels?
Team structure with 1 ruck.
Aggressive ball movement.
Tactical - The last 2 weeks their half back/wing zone has decimated us.
The grind em down mentality. Scoreboard pressure is better

I would move Caddy forward, brink Kmac in.
Replace Soldo with Nank
Blitz from the first minute

It’s not about the actual losing the game , it’s how you are playing the game . Last night as same previous week complete and utter rubbish .
This is spot on. Every team loses at some stage; it happens. But you need to analyse how you play in losses, as well as wins.

No one likes losing but it's a fact of life. But when you play like we have played in the last 2 games then there is some cause for concern. Our players as a group look totally disinterested; like they have been there done that and don't need to climb the mountain again. That is borne out in the lack of pressure and tackling last night; the lack of hard running, poor disposal, poor shots at goal, lack of support, lack of numbers around the ball. No intensity in our game whatsoever.

Most of our blokes looked like they wanted to be anywhere else but on the MCG last night. And remember this was against the oldest team ever put on an AFL/VFL ground. The oldest in the history of the competition. Our lack of skill, intensity and desire made Hawthorn look like a top 2 team last night; and they are far from that; lucky to be a top 8 team.

In a short season we have to turn this around next week; we can't afford to continue the form of the last 2 games or the season will be gone very quickly. A reformed Saints team at our bogey ground is a massive task for us. If I was a bookie we'd be no better than even money.

6 goals conceded from free kicks. Record low tackle count. Eight more inside 50s than the Hawks. There’s plenty to work with.

Remember, it’s a shortened season, not a short season.

KMac for starters, perhaps Balta too. Imagine Balta and Jack on each wing.

You can not play Jack R on a wing. He is too bloody slow. He has never been quick over distance (quick off the mark on a lead) but now he is like treacle.

That said I'm not sure what to do with him. Probably just back him to get back into some form and have some impact on the game; because the last two games he's had no impact at all and it's been very hard to watch.

Also i wasn't a fan of the footage showing some of the boys having a laugh in the rooms straight after the game either.

I've never liked this but admit I'm a dinosaur and players handle things differently these days. However watching us play the last two weeks has had me thinking this group of players look like they are very happy with their achievements to date (as they should be) and are playing like a team resting on its laurels. Maybe the after game reactions reflect that?

Least tackles in 12 years. Yeh, worst performance in recent memory.
Games are 3 quarter length. Hawks only had 34 tackles themselves. Bruise free footy. Im not taking this season seriously, it's clear teams are way off their best. It's AFL 9s style. The best soft team may just win this year.

It was amazing how much we actually clawed back in many of the statistical measurements by games end. Kick straight in the last and it was probably a 2 goal game. That said, first half effort was severely lacking.

3 straight forward misses and a dropped mark for almost certain goal and we were within a goal. Despite the poor showing we blew a real chance in the last. 34 points flattered the old Hawk buggers in the end.

It's a T20 version of footy this year. And at the moment we don't seem to have a Finch & Warner at the top of the order.

Richmond don't play like that. Either there is something up at the club, or we're in some sort of heavy load training period, but we dont just not try.

Sure, last year we had a bad start but in every game we looked like we were trying, it just wasn't clicking. Last night was just pathetic. Not sure when I've seen so many attempts to tackle with only one hand.

At least last year we had genuine excuses with injuries and suspension to our best players. But we never threw in the towel like we did last night. The effort and desire was always there.

Last night effort and desire were missing and that is inexcusable.

For some reason we have gone back to years ago, where we kick the pill as far as we can instead of our normal run, kick to a team mate and look for a forward option to take a mark.

Have no idea why we have changed our game plan which won us 2 premierships.

Then again, last night was another example of keeping offs by the Hawks, just like the Mudpies did to us last week.

We are not manning up either, which allows an oppo player free space.

Need to change back to our tried and true game plan of the last 3 years.

We made some old codgers at hawthorn look like gold tonight.
Smith hasn't had a good game since 2012.
Buygyoune was retired last week
McEvoy looked a 20 year old.
Frawley pantzed Jack.
I recall the interview with Jack at his home just before the AFL announced the re-start date when he said something like he's losing interest in playing footy this year. By last night's efforts he's got a few mates with the same problem.

I'm not panicking after one loss. I'm taking last night as the kick up the bum we deserved and needed.

the one play that really upset me last night was a 1 on 1 contest between Lambert and Burgoyne at CHF in the 3rd quarter. Lambert got embarrassed by a 37 yo. Hawthorn scored a goal form it.

my observations:
- 16 minute quarters do not suit us. nor do zero crowds. but its the same for everyone and we need to do better to adjust.
- i thought our forward handball gameplan could not be stopped. Clarkson proved that it can be and we might need to tinker with a few things to stay ahead of the game.
- speaking of adjustments, we have gone from a team that applied pressure on a scale never seen before in 2017, to a team that barely bothers anymore. we don't need to return to 2017 levels, but last nights pressure level was unacceptable.
- you can't give team a big start when games are shorter.
- Rioli has been living on the reputation of his name for far too long and just needs to be dropped.
- Stack is playing like its the VFL, not the AFL and is struggling to keep up with the pace of the game.
- I'm not worried about Jack just yet, but Balta just has to play next week.
- Soldo is still learning the game. i wouldn't drop him, but he needs help. Balta might be the answer as the second ruck.

Time in forward half 52%/48%
Contested poss 121/108
Free's 23/19
Inside 50's 43/35
Centre clearances 11/7
Ground ball gets 86/74

I have a theory that we have built an endurance list that runs out quarters and runs out games better than anyone else. These shorter quarters are killing us.

We are a team that over powers teams. My guess with shorter quarters we wouldn't have beaten Brisbane or Geelong in the finals last year.
And we're not that fit right now. And not playing well. It can all turn around pretty quick though. It needs to.

If he is mentally fatigued he should stand aside.
Then again Jack does so much media now he could have just been mumbling. But he played like he had lost interest last night. Can't Carry him or anyone else. Bounce back Jack. Saints game the perfect time...assume it's still a charity event for your cousin. Show us you are back Jack.
