Thomson Dow

I reckon he’s always been able to find the ball. But now he’s got some strength and size, he’s not getting monstered by opposition inside mids. And he looks to have developed more of a tank insofar as he hasn’t faded out of games in his last few senior appearances.

And his confidence is skyrocketing - he looks like he believes that he can win the ball at every contest. He’s not deferring to more senior players. His hands to advantage are effective and reliable. His kicking will never be a feature, but maybe that’s ok if his role is to extract the ball and feed it to our better users.

If we’re a chance of going deep into the 2024 season it’ll be because of players like Dow stepping up, owning a role, and freeing up our stars to do their thing.

Really hope he goes on with it.

My only concern with him is where does he fit in when Prestia comes back? Not enough places in the mid for all of them and he can't play a 2nd position. I reckon it could be Dow or Prestia (ie. we will rotate Dion this year to make sure he can play throughout the year - so it could be a play 2 sit out 1 type of scenario)

Agree Dow can’t play a second position.

But Prestia can. We might even get more longevity out of Prestia by resting him forward for longer periods.

Potentially. I can't remember which game it was last year, but he scored 3 in a row in maybe the 3rd quarter playing forward. Could potentially play a small forward / rotating mid role.

Yeah there were a couple of times where he was getting tackled by Petracca / Viney etc and managed to get his arms up and dish off the handball. In prior years that would have been HTB or a ball up, his strength is definitely much better. We probably all forget how skinny he was when we drafted him.

A few gun extractors in the AFL atm without a real second position. eg. Tom Liberatore goes alright; but doesnt do much when not around the ball. I really liked Dow today. well done young fella. keep it going!

Remember watching him with @caesar at training when get got drafted. Always had the skill . Class act . Ready to step up
Liken him to Cotchin . Starting to hunt the ball which was Trent’s strength. YZE will be good for Dow

He finished off the year well last season. Needs to continue to work on his disposal but is getting his hands on it. Really good game today. He could become a player who can make another. He gets and gives to someone who uses it well.

Yes but I jumped off Dow because in my view he just couldn't hit a target, not sure if previous match committee lost faith with him or Dow lost confidence in himself first.
To date his pre-season has been transformational and Yze is already an acknowledged fan of his early work. May well it continue which for mine would be an unexpected bonus for 2024.

Geelong. Dion could play the Lambo role. But so can Jack Graham.

Like a Jack Russell on steroids. Sinewy, relentless ball hunter. Should just get better after 10 straight games

He gets first hands on it a lot. Doesn’t sweat on others then tackle. May mean something in any tackle count

Doesn't mean he shouldn't still be tackling. Oliver gets his hands on the pill 1st a lot of the time and still averages between 6-7 tackles per game.
