Thomson Dow

His strengths are quite similar is what peeps are saying not sure what you’re reading
Edwards strengths were unrivalled to anyone we had in our team. His ability to put the ball and players into space was elite. Whilst Dow might have the lateral movement he doesn’t possess anywhere near the level of ability Edwards had.

Nonetheless let’s see if Dow can cement his spot in the 22 before we compare him to one of our greats.

Geeez took Edwards years to hone his craft to become an A Grader!
Was a bit of a under nourished Klutz in his early days!
There's your valid comparison!

Dow had been all fake and no drive for years. Too much lateral not enough bull at a gate. He got the second bit right at VFL level last year when he finally learned to run at the goal. And he looked like levelling up. Then became too one way and was just not running enough. Disappearing from games. He was up then down.

If you're going to fake your first move is to drive, in football to run at goal. Dow got that right in the intra club. Drive. Then he twice used a Shane Edwards hesitation fake. He just paused mid step in the drive. For 1/3 of a second opponents overcommit and space opens. Twice Dow hesi faked then popped the ball into the lap of the team mate he'd put into space. Classic Shane Edwards play.

This was glamour stuff above his usual standard. If he can keep it up he might go somewhere. But he'll only be able to keep it up if he drives first.

Thom Dow's work off the ball is another issue. But with or without the ball Thom has to run aggressively.

Again with the false narrative. Nobody is comparing Edwards at his best to Dow except you.
False narrative? Go read the last few pages and Edwards is mentioned regularly.

Anyway I do hope he turns out half as good as Edwards as we need our young players to drive us forward.

Perhaps scroll back to what peeps were saying about shedda early on and you might get a better context than comparing to a 300 game veteran

Thom Dow is no Shane Edwards and vica versa but Shane Edwards identified Shane Edwards traits in Thomson Dow and openly stated that he worked with the recruitment team in Dow’s draft year and I’m quite sure he said he had input into selecting Dow… I think

Was impressed against opposition. Must be firming for round 1 now.
We have had our differences over the off season but I was super impressed today with Dow. His ability to put people in space was dare say Edwards like.

His next area is hitting the scoreboard.

His kicking wasn’t elite but not the *smile* sandwich often described. Great game, I’m glad dimmer left and blokes like thom get a chance.

There is always one or two blokes on a list who do better under a different coach, maybe Dow is ours.

Did himself no harm today. Looks better when he doesn’t think. Kicking still average but he is giving himself every chance for Round Zero.

I know it’s just pre season but I think that game was significant. Buy in from the whole team and all the basics like pressure and tackling are back. Dow was just an indicator of a shift in attitude under a new coach. I’m excited.

See the Ooze thread. Club expecting really big things from Dow this year.

My only concern with him is where does he fit in when Prestia comes back? Not enough places in the mid for all of them and he can't play a 2nd position. I reckon it could be Dow or Prestia (ie. we will rotate Dion this year to make sure he can play throughout the year - so it could be a play 2 sit out 1 type of scenario)
